I'm mostly a WH & DH player, but have a smallish collection of IG (used as Inducted / Allied / IST).
I have to admit that I really like the Sentinel (and yes I know they aren't the 'best' unit in the game), and what I'd like to see is an all Sentinel Army. Anyone explored this idea previously?
I'd think we should model it off the Armored Company?
- Command Sentinel - Armored Crew Compartment - Improved Comms
- Command Support Squad - One of each below required (1 Elite, 1 Troop, 1 Fast Attack, 1 Heavy)
- Commisar Sentinel - TBD
- Sentinel Ace - BS-4 - TL weapon options - Armored Crew Compartment
- Assault Sentinels - WS-4 with dual Str-6 CC weapons - Squadron Leader upgrade to Power Weapons?
- Sentinel Squadron - Multilasers -
- Scout Sentinels - Over-charged Engines - Always open topped - Cammo Netting - 'Spotter'
- Drop Sentinels - Deep-striking Sentinels
- Heavy Sentinel - +1 armor all around - Armored Crew Compartment - TL Heavy Weapons (missiles, rockets, plasma, etc.) - BS bonus for using 'Spotters' for direct weapons, and a +/- 1 per 'Spotter' for indirect weapons
(use the forgeworld variants?)
ummmm no just a regular guard army maximizing in sentinels(12) is enough
I have seen a unit of 3 sentinals tie up a unit of 6 Nurgle Chosen+Lord that cost a ton of points for something like 4 turns. They can be amazing at tieing stuff up in combat, or even just shooting. In my Elysian army I use 9 with Lascannons and 3 with Autocannons.
yea sentinel can be useful for anything i saw some tactica about them
1 tie up strength 3 units in combat forever
2 act as "shields" take a sentinel squadron with smoke launchers and have them stand around a vehicle so your opponent has to kill 1 before he can even shoot at your vehicle, then if you get good at it have them move around the field like this lol
3 in a all drop troops army this is the only practical way to take heavy weapons(non forgeworld way) because they can use them the moment they land
4 force the enemy where you want him have a sentinel(lascannon works well on vehicles) stand on one side of the board so your opponent sets up his (insert unit easially killed by weapon) far away
5 suprise, have your sentinel wait till 2nd turn and drop in and cause as much havoc as it can in your opponents lines.
there are others but these are the only ones i remember for now
I would personally like to see this played, but if your ever gonna play me remind me to get stuff that can kill sentinals lol. Now when is GW gonna make a Sentinel force with 10+ sentinels?...
PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD LOOK AT MY BLOG!
Rep people if they help you!!!
I may explore the concept of a home grown Codex: Sentinels...anyone interested?
@Marious - many people have used this, and it is AMAZING in drop armies...9lascannon and 6 autocannon shots on the turn you land is insane.
@Inquisitor - Ha, sure, I'd love to see a Sentinal Codex.
Out of curiosity, how are Drop Guard able to field 12 Sentinels? What am I missing? 9 as Fast Attack...are 3 coming on as HQ Support?
What does the rest of the drop guard list look like? Doctrines, et. all?
Word. Lookin forward to it.Great...I found that someone else started a Codex: Sentinels some 3 or so years ago while surfing the WWW last night. It has many of the same unit concepts I was envisioning, but several special rules that were just not quite right. I'll move this over to a more appropriate home-grown rules forumn and post my working thoughts over there.Exactly right.Out of curiosity, how are Drop Guard able to field 12 Sentinels? What am I missing? 9 as Fast Attack...are 3 coming on as HQ Support?
