The only thing I have to decide before making my IG army is what colors to use, I feel kinda frustrated, cause I really want to start making it now. I don't want a really light scheme like white and *****, a bit darker....do u have a great scheme or want to tell what u are using, please tell me. Or do u have a great site with alot of IG pics? Help a fellow Guardsman (soon anyway).
i'm not sure if we're allowed to post links to our sites, but i use green, black, and brown

for cadian catchian green armoure and codex gray outfites
I want my cadian army to resemble something of the sort we'd see today (uniform wise) so I used the following scheme ...
Step 1. Undercoat all models black (ofcourse).
Step 2. Paint every bit of their uniforms scorched brown, then wait for that coat to dry well.
Step 3. Using catachan green, paint the helmet, flak jacket and shoulder pads. Now, in between dipping your brush (to paint the armour etc) you'll have a nice little amount of green left in your brush ...use this and basically drybrush the green over the whole uniform, taking care not to get it in the creases of their uniforms though.
Step 4. Same as above.
Step 5. Same as above but, being your third and hopefully final coat with the green take the extra time to get their uniforms in tip top condition.
Step 6. Paint the head and hands etc, get them looking mint. IMO your flesh job can either make or break the look of a well done model.
Step 7. Paint the models gun, belt, boots and accessories whichever colour suits you. I left most things black and bought them to life with a fine drybrush of chainmail (looks good). Everything bar the boots and belt. I then went through with extra colours and painted the knife handles, gun dials, magazines etc.
Step 8. A little flesh wash for the finishing touch then just paint the eyes (laughs). Also while you've got the white out, now would be a good time to paint badges etc if you want to.
Sorry I babbled on a bit there but, using the above scheme I am slowly on my way to completing what is IMO a very nice looking cadian army.
I'll have some pics of them up here soon for all to see. So when I get them on here, I'll come back and post a link and you can have a look at what I'm talking about.
Oh btw, I'm new to the whole warhammer thing - modeling, painting, playing etc ( I'm painting my 1st army ) so ...I'm by all means no pro or anything. I'm just a newb who's taken a little extra time ( got a basic system going hehe ) and somehow everything's turned out mint. I'm stoked. It it works for me, it'll work for anybody hehe.
Good luck. :o
Decide which environment they fight in first, then what colours they would have.
My regiment comes from a desert world, so they are painted yellow and brown. Others might have green colours for woodland camouflage, white for snow or gray for urban camouflage. Have a look in the codex, both the new and the old. There are many pictures of different types of camouflage there, or no camouflage at all as is the case with mordians :)
And then there's the real world of course. Look in books with real uniforms at your library or on the internet. I don't think those help much though, I can't paint well enough to bother with too realistic patterns :)
Hey this is my first post and i might as well do it too inspirate. I've been lpaying IG for about 2 years and i have over 16 different color shemes on about 400 soldiers(yes i have a job and a life dont worry) i just happen too have a good job. One of my favorite shemes i've done on the new cadians was catachan green on the armor thne desert yellow blotches on the catachan green and go around the desert yellow with black, and the clothes were a mix of camo green catachan green adn dar angles green(that took alot of time so u might want too do something else for that lol) if your looknig for something for catachns or vlahallans feel free to ask me.
