does a platform that is connected to a normal infantry squad, have to move with the squad? or can it be placed elsewhere?
..................What?????!!!!!!! please read what you said and try to explain what you mean?
10 Guardsmen + Heavy Weapon = 10 Guardsmen with a heavy weapon. It's a unit upgrade just like any special weapon you might choose to add to the squad. Purchasing a heavy weapon does not add any extra guardsmen to the squad, it's just two guardsmen that are bound to the gun so that unlike non-team based weapons you need to kill 2 models instead of just one before the weapon stops shooting. A heavy weapon team is not a separate unit, they're just 2 of the guys in the squad that's been given the task of operating the gun. These two guardsmen have to stay in coherency with the remainer of the squad since they're not an addition to it, they've been a part of the squad since start and there's nothing special about them aside from the fact that you need to kill both before you can remove the heavy weapon from play. Ten guys in a squad where two of them operate the heavy weapon.
Can't really think of any other way to explain it, a heavy weapon team is not an addition to the squad, they're two guys from the squad who're firing the big gun.
EDIT: Not trying to be sarcastic or insult anyone, just tired, bored and somewhat annoyed.
oh the user who posted this did not understand that? i think of it like an upgrade like upgrading a sergeant to veteran sergeant
One word answer:
Yes. If you want to compare a fiction game to real life, the situation is like this. If an infantry squad in say, Iraq, wants to move up the street in a hostile situation, chances are they will let a machine gunner cover the squad as they move. However, once the squad reaches their destination, they don't just leave the machine gunner behind. He comes with them. Same kind of concept applies here. Even though the weapon is different, Heavy Weapon Crews when it comes down to it, as Kaiser said, are still just two guardsmen in a squad that moves and shoots together.
