So, I'm not too keen on spending 100 dollars for 9 models, so I thought I would ask for some ideas on how to go about converting some Seraphim from other models (preferably plastics).
Here's the unit that I'm thinking of:
Canoness w/ Jump Pack, Mantle, combi-melta, power weapon.
VSS w/ combi-melta, power weapon
2 Inferno pistol Seraphim
5 Twin Bolter Seraphim
An Idea that I had was to buy the Battle sisters box and some Space Marine Jump Packs ($55). It would require a lot of converting, and I'd have to figure out how to make the bolters into "count as twin hand bolters." Also, I would need to convert 2 combi-meltas and 2 inferno pistols...
A second Idea that I had was to use Dark Elf Witch Models from Fantasy. This would require chopping off a lot of the crazy hair models and Green-stuffing armor on them and then fitting the jump packs... but I don't think that the models would come out looking as "holy" as I want them to and that's so much time to dump into 9 figures.
If nothing seems better than I'll try to get some off E-bay.
Fantasy: Daemons (Angels), 40k: Black Templars
I don't know that it would be any cheaper, but I've always said that if I were to do an alternate Seraphim, I would use Howling Banshees with a head swap (dremel time) and Seraphim jump packs. Cut the weapons off and replace with bolt pistols.
But seeing as how Howling Banshees are 6 for $30, plus $3 per pack - it'd be >$80 to do it.
I've been having some success converting sisters out of Dark and High Elf Warriors, and have started working on using Dark Eldar as the basis as well. New heads, trim the spikey bits off and a little work on their arms to change the weapons, and you got a passable sister. Add either a Seraphim Jump pack or a marine one as you like.
no you don't you have a elf warrior with a bolter ;?
i hate "count as" if the regular gw price is too much then look on ebay
no matter what you do you'll never make a space marine jump pack look right on a sister they are faar too bulky
and DON'T USE ELVES at all ever ever ever ever they make passable ELDAR MODELS they have no where near the required amount of armour to equal power armour and oh yeah they are elves! period.....
you can mailorder the classic serphim for a cheaper price other than that standard sisters with weapon swaps, mail order some imperial guard boltpistols as for the flame pistols you can convert them from regular flamers and inferno pistols.... i beleive the cannoness comes with one other than that i have seen some good converts from meltaguns
if your not going to mailorder the seraphimpacks then model wings onto em (there's a thread a few pages back with tips on this with celestine just downsize it) never resort to using any other jump pack there is none that look passable cept the elsryen guardsmen .... but if you have money enough for them why not just buy the seraphim?
i hopenoone got offended by my comments i did not mean to say your fake sisters look crappy only that they are fake 0:
"take my love, take my land, take me to where i cannot stand, i don't care i'm still free you can't take the sky from meee" ;- firefly
"i'm gonna grant you your greatest wish i'm gonna show you a world without sin" ;- serentiy
"I am a leaf on the wind, watch how i soar" ;- serenity
I'm not offended, and there is a bit more too it than just sticking a bolter on an elf.
But I personally dislike the sisters models, and I like kitbashing and conversions.
But to address you concern, if you take a look they actually have bulkier armor than actual sister models do. Plus this way you get more than 3 posses.
Do you have any pictures of your conversions wickedskippy?
Fantasy: Daemons (Angels), 40k: Black Templars
I don't have a camera at the moment, but I should be getting one in week or so. I'll try to get some up then.
As to Seraphim not having any other jumppack alternative i disagree.
I REALLY love the one used at minivault!
He has a full blog on how he has converted them up and they look great with their individual bases!
they are based on a sister back pack and so already fit in really well. The seraphim jumppacks to me were never WOW enough considering their special rules. In my mind they always looked a bit more like these.
Granted not a cheaper option but i think they look spectacular!
Firstborn Sons of Vostroya!
I'm using the regular Seraphims, IMHO they aren't too expensive and really nice models... Just don't like the stance, but it's easily fixed with a pair of pliers... Just bend the legs a bit and TADAAA!!! Converting them from sisters is a thing you can forget... And a Eldar/DEldar conversion doesn't fit into an army of normal sisters...
Here are those pictures that were asked for. And Destryphior is correct, they don't fit in with regular sisters...which is why I am planning to kitbash/convert my entire WH force.
Most of these are experiments while I was figuring out how I wanted to go about
These ones are made with high/dark elves as the base. They have Amazon heads (one has a wood elf head) One has scout arms, one has space marine arms w/o shoulder pads, and one has eldar arms, w/ marine shoulder pads. I tried to glue the backpacks on without pinning them, so they fell off.
These are what I think I am going to go with for the rest of my force. Dark Eldar bodies, with spiky bits trimmed off, and space marine lower legs. It gives them a little extra bulk, plus gives me a convenient place to bend the limbs.
I'm not sure if these will turn out to be appreciably cheaper in the end, but you could try something similar to my 'Deldar hybrids' without the marine legs. But they wouldn't match your other models without a lot of green-stuff or making all of them that way.
These are some other pictures
Sorry the photos didn't turn out better, still learning how the camera works.
