I'm an UltraMarine Player and I'm proud of it!
This is the thread for how awesome we are (and I don't care if I'm the only person who posts on it).
1) Conquered more worlds then any other Legion during the Great Crusade
2) Held the Imperium together after the Horus Heresy
3) Wrote the Codex Astartes
4) Created more 2nd Founding Chapters then any other Legion
5) Defeated the First Tyranid Hive fleet
And we're blue!
In the game we have some of the best Marine units in the game:
1) Tyranic War Vets
2) UltraMarine Honour Guard
In addition we don't need any poxy special rules to win games (yes Dark Angels, Space Wolves and Blood Angels I'm looking at YOU).
We're vanilla and proud of it!
I'm the only UltraMarine player I know in my gaming group (I have a 5th Company army - Black shoulder trim!) so the cry of "everyone does UltraMarines" falls on deaf ears.
Who's with me?
I'm with you! I've been playing as Ultramarines since before they were cool, and still then, and still now when they are uncool! When I started playing 40k every man and his dog was slavering over Blood Angels and Space Wolves! I chose Courage and Honour!
I've always been an Ultrafan and I love their fiction, their ideals and their style. The way that they are integrated with the population of Ultramar, not cruel overlords - and still provide foundings for the guard (My Imperial Guard are the Macragge 202nd) They remain true to the Emperor's ideals of the Space Marines fighting for (and with) humanity!
I hate how many people feel the need to rip on them - just because I haven't made up some Chapter of my own!
And in 4th Edition we finally have some exclusive toys to play with!
Tyrannic War Veterans can be great for making my opponent die inside - I remember the first time he charged them with his Raveners... only to lose the whole squad in exchange for 1 Marine (and he will be remembered)! Plus they are still my favourite conversion project to date!
Marneus Calgar is fantastic, 4 Wounds 2 Master-Crafted Powerfists and the option to deep strike - and not a points sink like most other Chapter Masters!
Tigurius with Fear Of The Darkness = Victory! I keep wanting to make a 48" Diameter Blast Marker to use for this one just so my opponent realises how screwed they are!
And The Honour Guard as well - I wish we had more models for them but a command squad full of entirely power-weapon armed Marines is something everyone should fear!
Courage and Honour, Brothers!
The stats of tyrannic war vets are surprisingly good, esp. with the grenades, I just wish I could use them with my basic marine army. I would love to convert some. I'm not a Ultramarine player, I'm just saying that Ultramarines have a good background and rules/models/characters.
hehe smurfs...and what do you mean no special rules?
isn't having the honour guard a special rule, the same with Nid hunters?
oh, and the DA is better because it was the 1st chapter, so it 's better
the BA are better cause they rule, who doesn't love death company (their enemies...)
the Black templars are better because they can somehow outnumber nids if your lucky enough to be fighting a guy who spends to much points on his TMC
Space wolves are awesome with there awesome true grit and shooty dev's
traited marines PWN because they get traits, and face it, an all bike army PWNs Ultrameanies...
Grey knights rule because they pwn daemons, or so I've heard...
Chaos space marines rule because they got tentacles growing randomly out of them (the lucky ones) and daemonettes
Sisters of battle (what? they're kinda like marines) beat them because they're girls, and that means they can outthink you, and have sisters repentia
Orks are betta because WAAAAAGH!
ok beside the last 2 (and maybe the GK...) all marines have their own reasons for being cool, be it fluff, gamewise or colours, so I'm not really with you, but you are right, everyone does ultrameanies (I got pwned one to many times by them...) and it might be because when a newbie starts he buys Battle for macragge, and want to paint like that, bringing even more people to the Ultrameanies side
so in general: SPACE MARINES RULE! (but orks still pwn em...)
Create flames for a galaxy and it will be warm. Put a galaxy in flames and it will be warm for the rest of it's existence.
Yeah, Ultramarines also did a good job with being very far away while Horus attacked Terra.
Black Templar (3000)
Imperial Guard (1500 and growing)
Yeah, you smurfs showed up late to the fight because you got gummed up half way across the galaxy building Gullimanistan.
Meanwhile, Rogal Dorn, was busting his ass to defend the planet and the Emperor against the flood of traitors trying to beat down the gates. Then when we pushed the enemy away, you folks showed up, told us to break up our legions, created the Administratum and made us all buy ten thousand copies of your primarch's book.
Seriously though, I love you Ultramarine players. It lets me actually have someone to argue codex with, we have a I think, third company (post or pre Ventriss I'm not sure) UM player near us, one of the vets in our shop, and he's perpetually disparaging my poor Reconcilers (Traits). The arguments are almost hillariously in character.
Hey Spook, Ventris' company was the 4th I believe. Personally I can't wait to see the follow to "Black Sun, Dead Sky" to see Uriel and Pasanius get re-instated after fulfilled their penitent mission.
When in doubt call in an ordnance strike.
Whats more likely is they'll get back, riding a demon engine, with a cartload of mutants and Marneus Calgar'll have them go on a penitent crusade for their pentitent crusade.
With the chaos-Uriel out there too, there might be further problems.
For some reason I still see that demon-engine (can't remember the guy's name) as a WW2 era holocaust train car.
The engineer of the daemon train was called the Slaughterman.
The Heart of Blood (some sort of greater damon, more powerful than a bloodthirster) destroyed the Slaughterman using a psychic power called "Bloodstorm" so the train will probably not run.
When in doubt call in an ordnance strike.
Yeah, yeah, this isn't about Uriel Ventris novels. Although the first two were cool.
The only reason the UM's weren't at the battle of Terra is because Horus knew that if he attacked while they were anywhere near Terra he'd get owned by them...Horus had to wait until the UM's had conquered the entire eastern fringe by themselves before he could make his move.
I haven't played UM's but I've always liked them and thought of doing a 5th company army myself. What appeals to me is their pre-gothic Roman Legion praetorian theme. Noble Roman space marines--now that's cool. Vampire space marines--not cool. Warewolf space marines--not cool either. Gregorian monk Inquisition marines--cool colors and force org, but messy fluff. Crazed beserker crusader marines--what a mess. Penitent masochistic golden-boys of Terra--all I can say is, you've gotta be a real man to play yellow marines, baby!
Well, maybe when the new SM codex comes out (probably not anytime soon) I'll start over with UM. My Orks have enough yellow trophies from my IF's (and vice versa) to smelt down and make a great gargant!
I need some pansies to beat down....
