    Blood Angle Speeder of Destructo-Death

I was going over the BA codex, available online HERE

Has anybody caught on that for a single speeder you no longer have to choose between the Typhoon and the Assault cannon? By the reading of the rules, a single speeder can have a Heavy bolter, an Assault Cannon, AND a Typhoon Missle launcher.

It's probably a few more points then I want to drop on an AV 10 vehicle, but that's an awful lot of firepower.

Interesting, but is it worth it? Adding all of that makes for a very expensive Land Speeder, something that doesn't seem to sit well in my stomach.

If you do use it, let us know how it does.

I've tried it. It's terrible. Huge points sink, got shot down in the first turn by some bolters.

Yes it is legal, in fact you can even use a multi melta instead of the heavy bolter (as Blood Angels have to pay for the multi melta in their speeders but have the option of taking a heavy bolter instead if they so desire) which makes it good for anti-infantry as well as anti-tank fire support. As others have pointed out, it is brutal when it fires, but gets shot down very easily. I really do not like speeders very much in general; they are a bit too expensive and fragile for what they do in my opinion. I also almost never have room for one in a BA list anyway, as I would much rather fill my fast attack slots up with attack bikes (which work with a BA army a lot better, are more durable, and pretty much do the same thing). I do occasionally take a tornado in 500 point combat patrol games, and sometimes put a typhoon missile launcher on it as well (I have it pinned so I can add/remove the missile launcher, assault cannon, and heavy bolter/multi melta since I only have one land speeder - I just do not use it often enough to buy more). It tends to survive a lot better in lower points games where few people take high strength weapons.

You are looking in the wrong codex, but not in the way that you are thinking. In the Space Marine codex under the Land Speeder options, it specifically states which weapons options may be combined, as well as directly stating that land speeders may be upgraded to either a typhoon or a tornado, but not both. There is no statement in the Blood Angels codex containing these restrictions. This is somewhat offset by the fact that our land speeders must purchase the multi melta upgrade even if we use a heavy bolter instead, our tornado upgrade costs more (although our typhoon upgrade costs less), we are restricted on the number of typhoon/tornado upgrades we can take per unit, and our speeders cannot deep strike.

Yes it is certainly legal. However to spend that much on a landspeeder is bound to draw unwanted fire power. I much rather a multi-melta/ heavy flamer combo. Probably the most effective land speeder choice there is. But that's just my opinion.
