Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hi. This is my first post in the IG forum. I am thinking of starting an Armored Company and I wanted to know what you and people you play against think of it. Is it considered cheesy in your circle to field an all tank army? I have found that generally people think that any extreme army(Nidzilla, Demon Bomb, etc.) is cheesy and just a power gamer looking for the "perfect" army. I personally just like the idea of a tank army. I don't care for the "regular guy" generic guardsmen(I play Tyranids and Necrons because they are far from human) so my list would be all tanks and sentinels. Would I be looked down on if I came to a game with 10 tanks and nothing else? Thanks for the input. I want to see if I will get any opponents before I go and buy all those tanks.
nah.....because I would be the guy who would want to see if I can be the chump to take out all those tanks and sentis Of course if I did beat that list then my army would be considered cheesy in the eyes of some people.
The thing with "cheesy" is that it is what people label an army that is perfectly legal by the books but they can't beat the army because I didn't take the time to study my enemy.
Where the heck did all them guardsmen come from?
Great Wolf! Is that the howl of the 13th?
I don't think anyone would call it cheese. Most don't believe in cheese here, as long as its legal. Besides often when I watch or am up aganist a list I think is "cheesey" my mind is to worried with how I'm going to be beaten then playing. Then afterwards I realise I could have won.
A few weeks ago I played a game against what I thought was a cheesy list. I never got to finish the game but I would not be too shocked if I had won. If I would have lost I already have some luck in mind to blame. Or in other words, war, it never seems to go right!
I'm interested in fielding armored company myself. Yet I personally think infantry is what wins. And they (my group) didn't think a bunch of guardsmen could take down a demon prince in CC.
Also an armored company is a lot of luck. If your ordnance hits, a lot is dying. If its flying all over the place and your vs MEQ, not a lot of dying.
As someone who plays with AC's in small point games(I only have enough tanks right now to make a 1200pt. AC list, lol) I dont get many problems from being labeled cheesy. Infact alot of people enjoy play aganist something that is new and they dont see fielded very often. And I cant say that I have had my fare share of defeats from just having tanks but hey its all in the fun. GO for the AC and never look back.
People who feel that list is cheesy usually do so because the tanks can be super tweaked with the doctrines they have available. There also seems to be a high rate of players that abuse the rules for AC and form illegal lists due to the fact most people are uniformed about how the list works (though it's online). That's just from my personal experience.
The other reason it's seen as cheesy is that one well placed battle cannon shot will wipe out an entire squad from across the board. I think a lot of players have the knee-jerk response that that is cheesy because 10 such weapons are too powerful. They're used to having units ground down by 20 shots from bolters at 12 inches, not one cannon from 48 inches. Combine that with doctrines that make tanks resistant to melta weapons or add extra points of armor, and the list suddenly seems very unbalanced.
The way to beat that is just be up front about the army. Show them your list, tell them when the game starts what the doctrines do, etc. This is no disadvantage to you, since your opponent already has their list done. I find the word "cheese" gets thrown around when you spring a surprise power just to win the game. If you're like, "Hey, this is my AC, I like tanks, it's legal, good luck," your opponent will look at it as a tactical challenge rather than feeling like you're trying to pull a cheap trick to win. As a rule of thumb, if you're enthusiastic about the army concept, which it sounds that you are, and your opponent sees that, AND your list is fluffy (which AC definitely is), it will be a very fun game.
Hope that helps.
