I am planning to grab a few more tanks in the next month or so, allowing me to field an armoured company list (I only need 3 more tanks to give me 2000 pts, so it seems silly not to!), and when I was reading the rules the other day I had a (admittedly rather silly) thought.
Can I take Grey Knights as allies for my Armoured Company?
Now I know it would be cheesy as HELL; that's not what I'm asking - I just want to know if it's ever explicitly been stated as being rules legal or not.
The closest I've found is in the Daemonhunters Codex, wherein it states that you can take Daemonhunters as allies for Imperial Guard 'Variant' Army Lists such as Catachan Jungle Fighters or Armageddon Steel Legion (as they were at the time).
I'd consider Armoured Companies to be a variant list of the Imperial Guard, and therefore able to take Grey Knights (or whatever) as allies.
P.S. I only thought of this because I already have Grey Knights, I'm not trying to build a Super Army - afterall every time a unit dies I will be handing a big silver platter of VPs to my opponent!
I dont see why not, AC are a varriant of IG, dont recall any specific rulings, worse still at the points levels you are reaching you are hitting appocalypse levels, in which case it would be fine
Everything you have been told is a lie!
I am thinking of doing the exact same thing, and everyone I have asked has said "no problem".
With Apocalypse though I wonder if an AC list will be better than The Emperor's Fist Tank Company. Obviously there are not the same varients of Leman Russ available, nor are there Doctrines, but I wonder what would be the better 1 to ally the GK's to.
