I'm a new player to 40K and am putting together a small army.
I like the idea of a light infantry army and want to make use of that doctrine. I have two questions.
When I purchase the doctrine it costs 10 points p/unit. This refers to squad and not platoon, correct?
However, in the platoon description, it says "Each Platoon counts as a single Troops choice...when deploying." Would this mean that if I make use of the light infantry doctrine and want to infiltrate, that I have to purchase it for all my squads? In other words, I couldn't just purchase it for one squad and have that squad infiltrate?
(On a side note, the same questions could apply for Deep Strike doctrine as well, except for the cost.)
Im mostly sure you can purchase for just one squad and not the whole platoon. You would just have to make sure you mark it in some way or show that they are the infiltrators/deep strikers. For instance, hold them off the board.
When goblins blow themselves up its stupidity. But when humans blow themselves up its bravery....odd isn't it
yea you can give it to just a squad

The rules don't actually mention it, but I assume mixed platoons have to be set p separately.
I've also thought about using light infantry in the future. My army is desert-themed and it would be pretty cool to have a platoon of Tallarns to iniltrate with. (not entirely original though, if you know what I mean :) It would be especially useful in a quarters mission to have a large part of your force already in position in another quarter.
I won't bother with sniper rifles though, I need my heavy weapons.
I'll probably use veterans and ratlings too, for other reasons. It's just a coincidence that they can infiltrate too :)
