So I was looking at my codex this morning and realized that it features a line-guardsmen bearing a flamethrower. while it's a cool looking picture, the flame thrower has to be the least used special weapon in the IG armoury. that said, does anybody think that they should update the picture (and perhaps update the codex while there at it)?
A storeowner in Bozeman told me that the plan is to update all the codices to the new style- i.e. the way the DarkAngels codex is. Guard should see an update in the... nearish... future. But that's what a storeowner told me, so what? You never know with their info. Hopefully goddam Sanctioned Psykers will be useful. But I'm Chaos now, so it doesn't matter as much to me.
I'm still there for you, though, my Loyalist brethren. I still push for equality and balance.
In my opinion, Codex Imperial Guard should be in the way back of codexes needing an update, aside from a few weak units that few use, there's not much to complain about... Besides, seeing how the new codices look, I'm betting we won't get to keep our doctrines, and that would really suck. :/
As much as I like to see change, I agree with Kaiser...

Pssst.... give me kudos....
The codex is fine, a change would be interesting in nice but I see no real good reasons too. When the change does come, I expect doctrines to be out.
Yet I'd think they would give us some way to replace the ones that mean something to us...
Close Order Drill, Iron Discipline. I love those doctrines!
From my understanding the IG codex puts them on the same level as most competative armies, if played correctly guard can be and usualy are devastating in most events. There are plenty more races out there that need an update a hell of a lot more than guard do. Ex: orks, space wolves, dark eldar and ect.
I'm not sure what main topic of the thread is, the pic or need to update the codex. But as far as the codex goes, I don't think they'd scrap doctrines in the new one. If you look at the Chaos one, from what I've heard, they mostly just made is much more marine focused.
I think the SM codex redux will be the ultimate indicator of how 4th ed. guard will look.
After the last few codex that have been produced the only thing that I think guard need to stay balanced with the new armys is a drop in the cost of the vehicles. anytime a defiler get 14 armor all around (I may be wrong on that but I believe that is corect), a battle cannon and fleet of foot for the same price as a leman russ then there is a problem. A few points less and it will pt the guard back into balance.
But yeah, I hope they never make a new IG codex - the current setup is too awesome to wreck! And still very competitive, as WraithGuardian already stated.

Also, you should google "garfield minus garfield". Awesome.
14 all round? what codex are you looking in??
Guard dot need an update, they are fine as they are, there are other armys that need it desperatly, Orks and Dark eldar being paramount.
And why is the flamer the least used weapon? In my old Light nfantry force atleast one sqd in every 3 had one in my platoons and 2 of my command squads did as well, it can be very effective if used well.
PROUD TO BE IN THE BRITISH ARMY.
