Im thinking of starting apocalypsing my templars army and i have a few question i hope someone will be able to straighten out.
Im starting by adding High Marshal Helbrecht and the Masters of the Chapter battle formation, im just wondering would it be a good idea to add possible additional 5 neophytes to the attached command squad/retinue as outlined in Helbrecht's special rules and therefore remove the option of using a land raider crusader, and if so would it then be advisable to take an extra chaplian in the army to attach to this squad? Or take the chaplian option with a land raider crusader and forget about the neophytes? Also on this point, 2 meltaguns or 2 plasma guns or 1 of each...taking into accout i will be decking the entire squad out with CCW and BP, im leaning towards 2 meltaguns as the risk of exploding plasma guns in with high marshal and champter masters.
2nd question, how the hell do the Battle Company and Suppression Force battle formations work for the templars, is this not totally void if using a purely templar force as they do no have tactical, devestator squads or whirlwinds at their disposal? Im assuming if i wanted to use this formation i would have to make it an "allied" marine force?
1. I would beef up the squad one way or the other in order to have some fodder, since Helbrecht and the Masters are going to be a big target, and you want someone to take a few hits. Keeping the LRC would be nice to keep them further shielded until they hit cc.
2. Yeah, they can't do it I don't think.
For Helbrecht, take enough to fit in the LRC, and that's it. You can add a chaplain to the command squad and not let him count against you for an HQ (not that it really matters in apoc). Helbrecht, a powerfist in the squad if possible, 2 meltaguns, a chaplain, the big guys, and enough guys to make the squad 15 to fit in the LRC.
Of course you realize every gun on the table will be turned on this unit...

I'd do a search on the interwebz on the organization of a Black Templar Crusading force. Being as they don't follow the Codex Astartes, they don't consist of companies in the same manner as other chapters.
I'd say just go nuts with it and include as many minis as possible. You may have to adapt the Battle Company rules in the Apoc rulebook to make it work for your Templars.
