I looked around and did not see anything to clear on this. The reason I am asking is I love the idea that you can run 5 man squads + a sgt instead of having to field ten man squads. Moreover, you get plasma guns for a bit less then normal guard and still keep the crappy normal guard save instead of dropping down even lower as listed with Jungle Fighters Doctrine. Also, missle launchers become cheaper for troop units. Problems are that troopers and other weapons/wargear cost quite a bit more. All in all, not a bad trade off though. It sounds too good to be true, so, therefore I need to check on this before I pursue it any further. Thanks!
I don't think you can mix the two codexes. There's nothing saying you can mix the new IG codex with the old Catachen one in either the IG codex or FAQ. Unless it's stated specifically, for example the witch hunters and daemon hunters books, you can not mix codexes. (It'd be similar to asking if you could mix IG and LatD armies.)
Only way you would be able to is in a friendly game with opponent's consent or apocalypse level.
In the front of the catachan codex it says that units can be used from the catachan codex in the normal guard list, however this was written with the old codex in mind. As it says that the army cna be fielded in its own right then it coudl therefore be used as allies. One thing to remember with this si theat the death world vets are effectively a guard army with already paid doctrines. As such to ally it wiht a doctrined guard army woudl probably be frowned upon.
As the codex is available only online now it's probably a good idea to ask permission before using it as it is.
Personally as long as they were allied with an undoctrined guard army i would not have a problem. (As long as there is a sensible reaosn for it and it isnt done purely as a way to create a beardy army!)
Hope that helps
You can't. The codex isn't legal anymore. Ask Jervis Johnson the *@!$*@#$@#$
