i'm thinking about building it up 500 pts at a time...could i get some help?
Pure infantry. With all the different guns at their disposal they make a very versatile force.
And over there we have the labyrinth guards.
One always lies, one always tells the truth, and one stabs people who ask tricky questions.
The battle force would be a good start...3 heavy weapon teams ( with loadz of bitz ), 20 guys ( grenadier squads or whatever ) and a tank ( for muscel ).
Yeah, what he said.
I'm new to the whole warhammer scene. After making my choice to go with IG I went out and purchased the cadian battleforce box. Needless to say I'm stoked, and there are LOTS of spare bits on the HW sprues as mentioned above.
3 HW's, a tank and 20 men ...that's a pretty good start IMO.
Combine that with another box of infantry, the HQ box and a little something else and you'll have a pretty nasty little force.
I always find the chimera in 500pt battles a pain in the ass for the enemy to kill. Even packing one or two lascannons, behind cover the chimera is a pain to kill and provides nice firing base(as long as you roll decent)

yeah CHIMERA is awsome under TVR rules.....give it a heavy Stubber, and it has 9 shots at 36", no matter how far it moves...

armoured company. with 2 armoured fist and a storm troopers squad. might not be realy fleibole but thats not guard. I play armourd company and conscript guard armys.
3 things a normal guard army neeads though are
1. Numbers you neead to out number every one even orks.
2. tanks you can forget #1 if you play armoured if not then take at least 3 tanks you should fill you hv support with tank unless you are playing droop armys wich would recuire more numbers and full hv weapons platoons
3. heavy weapons fill your infintry platoon and your comman platoons. stay away from mortart unless you use a lot of them. dont take heavy wepaons platoon unless you play drop pods(you will nead the tanks.)
I find numbers to be the big thing. In most battles ( 1000 pts or more ) I outnumber my friends tyranid force and triple my friends DA force. I just recently bought another HS choice ( Chimedon ), havn't played a game using all 3 HS choices yet, but considering I've never lost with my IG yet, one more template weapon can't hurt.
Once you get a full army, conscripts are the way to go. I just put 50 out there in one huge mass ( with 2" spacing of course ) , with no special, heavy weapons. I remember one game this SM player didnt shoot at them in favour of the big stuff and he had around 70 ( rapid fire ) lasgun shots shooting at him. They also make a great bumper force to tie up expensive units... like say a Carnifix, Tyrant, Assault squads....
i use cons to but when you take 50 they become a expensive unit in their own right. I use them i two ways the stadard meat sheild or just walking up a flank. I try the second when i play mixeed guard. it takes ther heavy weapons of the awating troops and tanks.
200 pts aint bad for 50 guys...
