Alright, everyone always argues about what weapon to throw on the GM's offhand. I was wondering, though, would a Storm Shield be a better investment? It's 15 pts cheaper than an Icon (which is standard equiptment, if you ask me), and this way you can also buy Bionics or whatever else you like within that 15 extra points.
And yes I know that it only works in CC, but the existing armor/invuln save should work for shooting, as my GM and retinue are really only outside combat on the turn they come down in.
What do you think?
Also, I was wondering about Thunderhammers on GK Termies. Is this a worthwhile upgrade? I mean, they already have S6 power weapons that attack in Initiative order... Does anyone do this?
for me I would just get the IotJ because you would loose the storm bolter or whatever you put on the left hand if you took the storm sheild. also you can only us the storm sheild against one opponent, which isnt really too bad considering most units only have 1 guy with a weapon that ignores armor saves; but you never know.
Personally i would take the icon just in case lets say the land raider blows/termies deep strike in front of a bunch of lascannons and plasma guns.
I wouldnt give him a shield for 2 reasons:
1) its double redundant, he already has a 5+ Invul save
2) not only does he lose the Starm Bolters ranged attacks, he also looses his +1 attack in close combat with a S6 FORCE WEAPON...not a good thing...
I frequently give my GM Holy Relic, but usually only in larger games where he is accompanied by a Retinue of Termies (I usually have either 3 or 7 of them) so that many attacks just from them is NASTY...but wait till after youre in CC a round, so that everyone is B2B contact tho...
I also frequently give my GM Sacred Incense, as it drops most of Chaos's BIG nasties, drops a Chaos Lord or Daemon Prince I to 4, so our GM strikes first....It makes our GM strike first against every Greater Daemon except a Lord of Change, which will go at the same time...a lot for a little 10 points...and it can decidedly shift the battle in youre favor in some cases....because we all know chaos opponents LOVE to throw their big nasties DIRECTLY at a unit of Terminators...what a surprise they will have , In addition, if I know I will be fighting a Greater Daemon, or a perticularly NASTY Daemon prince, I add the Grimoire of True Names
I cant see any other upgrades really being worth it, other than Holocaust possibly, of course...or maybe an Unguents of Warding vs Eldar or Tzeentch....but thats abt it
Alright, seems that everyone agrees that a SS isn't a good idea. I didn't know that it was only good against one enemy in CC, either!
IotJ, Bionics, Sacred Incense, NFW, Stormbolter.
Personally, i'd stick with the IoTJ and actually ditch the stormbolter.....no wait, don't stone me!!
Termies and GM's belong in HtH - so i give the GM a powersword and ditch the SB, also take IoTJ, Scourging and Sacred incense.......you can of course, lose the scourging.
Now, this is, i agree, starting to add up quite rapidly in terms of points, but it does give the guy 6 HtH attacks on the charge....with a S6 force weapon......if you are looking down the Chaos-barrel, take a Grimoire - and Ungents of Warding work well against Psykers.....including afaik C'tans.......
NOBODY expects the Holy Inquisition!
Our chief weapon is surprise...surprise and fear...fear and surprise....
Our two weapons are fear and surprise... and ruthless efficiency....
Our three weapons are fear, surprise, and ruthless efficiency...
and an almost fanatical devotion to the Emperor....
Our four... no...
Amongst our weapons... Amongst our weaponry...
are such elements as fear, surprise...
I'll come in again.
ok, it comes down tho this...6 attacks EVERY close combat, or 6 attacks only on the turn you charge...you do the math....as I am planning on throwing my Termies at the biggest meanest thing my opponent has, I cant be guaranteed on ending cc in ont turn, so ill go with 6 every turn thank you...
Huh? How would you get six every turn?
There's an angel on my shoulder, in my hand a sword of gold.
Hmm.. If I gave him a chainfist, could I split up the attacks he has? Like "three attacks are with the chainfist, and the rest are with the NFW"? And wouldn't he get the bonus attack that way too... 5 attacks, 6 on the charge... mmmm
And OrionLethe, I assume for the 6 attacks off the charge you mean if the GM has 2CCW and a Holy Relic?
yes Megalo, 4 base, 1 for True Grit, and one for the Relic...
and no, if you have 2 CCW, you can choose to use the abilites of one or the other, and all attacks are presumed to be from that weapon, you can never use the abilities from both..hell, I conidered doing the same thing, but with my NFW and a Daemonhammer...but no go..sorry
Sorry OrionLethe, but terminators and the GM don't get true grit with storm bolters (only PA GK) and the 4 attacks already includes the +1 for terminator armour
the Power Weapon for 15pt would give him 5 attacks and then 6 with holy relic but it doesn't work with storm bolters
if u have the points then i would give the GM a Power Weapon if u are charging but keep the storm bolter or even ditch it for a psycannon if u are starting on the board
i would maybe also consider hammerhand if u have the chance of coming up against tanks and for 10pt. it can help out if u need alot of S8 attacks rather than force weapon attacks
just my opinion though and i expect to be shot down on hammerhand so BRING IT!!!!
