    Black Templar on a Budget

I have a relatively fleshed out Infantry Based Black Templar Army, that I have been building up since I started playing the game. However I have no tanks at all.

They cost way to much. I understand that at least one dreadnought and one land raider crusaider is characteristic, (and probably wise), but I can't afford them. For this reason I have tons of assault marines. And all of my Hq units have either jump packs or are on a bike.

Black Templar specialize in close combat, that is why I have so many fast attack, to get them in fast. But half of my army usually gets killed off before I reach my enemy anyways. (Though against the Imperial guard, I have evened it out before, once I reached close combat.)

    Any tips that could help?

You can get PVC pipe, or you can use a gatoraid bottle, or any sort of roundish container with a footprint about the size of a CD. Do an image search on the web.
Minivault.com has pictures of PVC drop pods...

Buy the 4" PVC Caps, they should be big enought to hide a Dreadnought under, and i think that their under 10 US dollers. My friend has some and with some vehicle bitz glued to them they look batter then the forge world ones IMO.

There's also an aussie company that makes drop pods that look almost the same as the normal ones at a very good price (forgot the link, anyone else have it?)

Rules wise, black templars are a bit iffy when using drop pods. So if your planning on going to tourney's i wouldn't advise you use BTs and drop pods. This is because the emperors champion can't legally be fielded in a drop pod. However, this is often forgiven in friendly games, as it makes no sense - a rules oversight by GW.

Up untill now, I would usually deep strike, but lately I have ended up accidenly killing my guys or landing them in a bad spot. Another tactic I normally use is to hide in cover and take back ways around things, but that dosn't protect me from things like, imperial guard basilisks.

If i where you, id field a couple of LSTs, and leave other tanks at home. Drop pods aren't very good on BTs, as drop pods are meant for shooty armies.

    Peace
