a couple of noob questions:
1)do dreads suffer from the "gets hot" rule for plasma
2)is the plasma cannon worth its points?
3) is it worth upgrading to a missile launcher or is the CCW and Incinerator the best option?
In the right circumstances, sure. Mostly, however, the DH need anti-armour weaponry, not infantry-killing weaponry. And as the dreadnought is the only place to get it outside of allies/inductees or land raiders, the plasma cannon is rarely used.Originally Posted by Korim TrucebaneIf you want an anti-armour dread, always go TLLC and ML. That way, both weapons complement each others' purposes exactly. You can always keep the dread at a safe distance near sight-blocking terrain to minimize return fire and to take cover in case it is hit and unable to shoot for a turn.Originally Posted by Korim Trucebane
If you want an assault support dread, go Assault Cannon and DCCW (incinerator upgrade optional). If you're approaching to make use of the DCCW/incinerator, you want a weapon that will complement that task, and neither the plasma cannon nor the TLLC is suitable.
ninjabackhand: point and click, again, really? even after i give you an military term "shock tactic" you still call it point and click.

1. Vehicles do not have to worry about the gets hot rule, it does not affect them. (So the dreadnought is not affected by it as dreadnoughts are vehicles.)
2. Thats more or less up to you I believe, many people don't take it because its a non twin linked, single shot weapon on the dreadnought (other than the missile launcher.)
3. If your going with the lascannon then the missile launcher is a great idea, the assault cannon is best with the close combat weapon, but I think the plasma cannon is good either way. (So your best off trying both types and seeing which one has better results.)

So, I think that if you're taking inducted guard or WH that can adequately cover your AT needs, then go for it. Otherwise you're better off taking the TL LC/ML.

Well in my most humble opinion. I suggest you leave the plasma cannons to the servitors in your inquisitor squad it will save you points. Nothing screams shoot me like a dreadnought, (a high point weapon coupled with a powerfist that attacks at regular speed, and reletively low armor).
So save the dreads for anti armor you will need it cause your only other option is landraiders. Plus you shouldnt need any help with marine equivalents for the plasma cannon to be necessary.
But thats my opinon, I'm one of those insane radical inquisitors.
Necorn Work In Progress Click Link
I'm just about ready to start painting a pair of dreads in which I installed rare earth magnets in their shoulders so I can swap weapons. I suggest you try that too and then you can use whatever weapons you like. Plus you can pose them a bit.
Everything has already been covered here. All i can say is...
Post pics of your finished miniatures in the paint section so we can all see your awesome work! I can't wait!
I'll do that, but you may need to wait a awhile. I am a bit slow! Between my postdoctoral work and planning my wedding there is a lot of time to spare. :ballon:
(if you think i put together models slow, you should see how slow i paint!)
But yah, i have lots of models, most of them 1/2 built.... Im slow, and have too much of a social life sometimes..
Plus i have random spirts of tremendously terrible luck...
So i understand man, no rush, when you get to it, you get to it!
