So there I was lamenting that we Grey Knights have either got to gimp our boys by taking away their NFW to give em psycannon or tool their termies making em hell of expensive.
Ussually I add 1 Inq Lord + Psycannon with the assorted Heavy Bolters, Plasma cannon and a bunch of acolytes, familiars, sages and mystics to gain their benefits but also to have about 6 wounds before having to take out models that are actually worth it. (really pisses of an opponent that I have em in 4+ cover and he has to pass 9 wounds before he harms them)
And then I thought... hey it would be expensive sure but wouldnt it be cool to have 2 guys with Psycannon, 4 guys with heavy bolters and 2 plasma cannons? Yes I admit its a high cost but what I wanna ask is it worth it in a 2000 point game? The best with this idea is u have basically a heavy weapons team with 1 reroll per round that DOESNT take up any heavy slots...
All in all if you want a shooty inquisitor then have him by all means but make sure its the inquisitor lord you choose anything more is overkill. I don't use em myself coz a henchman with a heavy bolter is MORE points than a tactical marine with a heavy bolter!! I know which one id choose!
Well, I imagine it'd largely depend on the opponent you're fighting. Against horde-type armies where you'll be doing a lot of gunning, the long range and high rate-of-fire would be beneficial. On the other hand, it's going to make your army more static, so a more mobile force could simply keep out of range or LOS. Forces with significant numbers of Deep Strikers would be another interesting place to take the shooty retinue with mystic. I like the thought of deep-striking terminators potentially getting hit with 2 free sets of HB/PsyC/PC fire due to the possibility of overlapping mystics. Not terribly likely, of course, but the look on your opponent's face would be priceless .
Political language is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind.
If you're intruiged by doctors who are also ninjas, then this is the webcomic for you!
Yhea it is true it depends on what force you are playing so horde armies wont like you but i simply dont think they pump out enough firepower for their points ( 176pts for a shooty inquisitor, more if its an inquisitor lord). If your looking to spend around 400 points on big gun toys id advise the allies rule. 2 squads of tactical marines. Thats 300 pts base with guns on top but they are so much more survivable(20 marines vs 18 henchmen and 2 inquisitors, look at their stat line man!) or take 5 man squads, uber cheap! Plus you could take razorbacks with las cannons on em to help out anti tank. Two 6 man squads with PC and PG each with Razorback + las cannon = 420 pts. Also you could still take an inquisitor with two mystics to get the 'shoot at deep strikers' rule. Mind you you cant then use GK, decisions decisions.

The comparisons between shooty Inquisitor retinues and Space Marines is all very nice. But unless you're playing radical (or otherwise forgoing GKs), it's a comparison that is useless.
Anyway, for 184 pts, you can get:
I-lord w/psycannon and auspex
3 HB servitors
Spend 20 pts more, and one of those gun servitors can tote a plasma cannon instead.
There is no Space Marine squad -- not even a Devastator Squad -- that can be built as cheaply but which can pour out that kind of accurate firepower. (BS 5 psycannon, free reroll) Not to mention the shots at deep strikers/summoned daemons/drop pods, either from the Inquisitor squad itself or from another nearby squad. And not to mention Iron Will, too!
Any way you look at it, it's a bargain price for a squad with capabilities can't be matched anywhere else. And it can be worth taking even in predominantly GK armies because the heavy weaponry is something that GKs seriously lack.
It's one problem is fragility. But Iron Will and smart deployment into cover can mitigate that shortcoming almost entirely.
I know SM players who regularly take a shooty I-lord just because its so affordable to get LD 10, Iron Will, a psychic hood, and that much awesome dakka in their lists.
ninjabackhand: point and click, again, really? even after i give you an military term "shock tactic" you still call it point and click.
