I'm a pretty new player, working on an IG army. One thing that I want to do is add allied Witch Hunters to my army. I'm just wondering, though, at what points level is it a good idea? I'm probably only going to be running 500-1000 point armies for the next little while. Do Sisters make sense at that level, or should I leave them alone until I get into higher levels?
Advice and experience is much appreciated.
Emperor Protect ... my pants!
Most lists I have seen pretty much run allies only at 2,000pts games, I haven't seen them taken at anything lower, but that's just what I have seen. Personally I would want myself a nice 1,500pts of pure guard to start with. I don't know a great deal about the Inquisition allies but I suspect they are pretty much a strategy take i.e. you're differing some what from standard guard practise of point and shoot. They are also a lot of points that can be better spent elsewhere, like anyone will tell you IG is numbers and guns, unless you have a wild card up your sleave they are probably best left alone except for big games.
1) Some tournaments etc don't allow allies.
2) You've got more options in your guard stable to tailor your army about - i.e do i take heavy bolters and a lascannon, or two missile launchers and two mortars? You'll get more out of the investment (and more varied experience) if you concentrate on one
I however never paid attention to my own advice - admittedly as when i re-started i found some of my old models including a vindicate assassain - who i use to pick off anti-tank heavy weapons from squads. No, he rarely makes up his points in kills in a game, but he stops my large point chunks burning in a crater. The obigitory inquisitor also gets : Psychic hood - a must and unavailable to guard. Yuo can also get some hand to hand ability with allies too.
