Welcome to Librarium Online!
Ok, back for one of those topics of mine where I ask advice vs this time the eldar.
Well... I know my opponent doesnt play one of those cheese full skimmer lists, that being said he will honor his skimmer options. I also think he doesnt own any Harlequins and hence wont use them. Last but not least he likes fast and shooty armies so he plans to come to me. Also... I know he DOESNT use Eldrad Ulthan.
well 3 dreads as the only viable heavy choice, armed to kill his skimmers so 3 x TLLC/ML since I dont think I need a huge help in CC. Also, LR. LRC, Orbital and Purgation squads are just free points for him (brightlance and ap 3 weapons killing models worth 25 + 30).
Other than that, since he is T3, I was thinking callidus + DCA.
The usual Inqusitor but only HBs in his retinue and no need for Plasma Cannon.
Small unit of Seraphim for objectives and prolly a normal Sister unit for rapid firing death if he approaches me.
Last but not least 3 x Grey Knight squads for the actual trooping of my army.
Terminators I wouldnt take against eldar, they seem kind of a waste... perhaps a BC in with one of the squads.
Advice, ideas and knowledge u experienced people have against them?
Game is set at 2000 points and all my army has... Scouts ability (not the moving, only that I deploy everything after he deploys).
Got a draw with the Space Wolf guy... damn those Venerable dreads and their reroll ability and damn the Drop pods landing just 1-2 inches away from how far my mystic could see...
My two cents.
1. Concentrate your army, eldar are faster and can generally mass a torrent of fire which make them great at picking off units. By holding your army together it will make him have to risk bringing them out from hiding.
2. Shoot the Avatar. He will munch through Gk's in c/c so try and hope you shoot him before it comes to that. Lascannons work well, but a nice combination is two units of IST with two Plasmaguns in each (I killed an Avatar in a single round of shooting with just two units of IST.. lucky though)
3. Use the Callidus, she the best assassin against the Eldar. Move those dark reapers 6" behind the cover their sitting in (negating them two rounds of shooting) and when she pops up, make sure its beside the Farseer where she can rip him apart (stopping those nasty psychic powers) and then continue down the fire line.
4. Don't waste time shooting the Falcon, unless you have excess bullets to shoot, this thing will suck up all your fire power and keep moving. Your shots are better aimed elsewhere.
5. Concentrate fire. Kill a unit out right, don't spread your fire. Try and take out a unit at a time, instead of little bits off alot of units.
6. Remember GK's have a natural resistance to psychic attacks.
7. Psycannons and H/bolters will rip through their armour and will generally have range over them (they are a shorter ranged army)
I'm sure there is more but thats enough for tonight.
Hope it helps.
Much must be risked in war.
Blood Angel Stormraven Conversion Work In Progress.
I recommend you concentrate on going for the objectives and surviving until they get close enough, Eldar are fast and can concentrate on the kill until the very last turns to rush the objectives. If you've already contested them it'll make winning harder in that respect. In addition, if you can match the Eldars speed, all the better. Seraphim prove one of the mose valuable assets here, they can bring flamers close for the kill and can avoid the Eldar themselves using terrain.
Heavy bolters are good against eldar, but with their superior speed its unlikely you'll get these shots off so I would gear your retinue to be mobile (plasmaguns), the Psycannon is a better choice but to be honest I would stick with the storm bolters for the simple reason of their superior range and it's better to just buy another grey knight, or go for incinerators. Remember the ageis makes it harder to Eldar to hit you with their longer ranged weapons so they'll take the fight to you.
Lascannons may not kill a skimmer but the very least it'll do is stop them from shooting the following turn. Keep this in mind, it'll save alot of troops.
One major problem to look out for are those units that can move like tau battlesuits (jetbikes, warp Spiders, shining spears) as they can pick off your army without getting harmed themselves, try to avoid them and get as much cover as possible. Shining Spears will be a major problem, in 2000pts your opponent can afford a solid unit with an Autarch at the lead, such a squad can wipe out whole units of grey knights with ease and have superior movement. Use terrain to gain the first strike (if the autarch isn't with them) and force them to take a dangerous terrain check for charging into terrain on a jetbike or use a transport to hide the softer infantry.
So how would you deal with the Eldar? Well Eldar are fast but not nessecary faster. You can at least match their movements with your own (Seraphim, Sisters in Rhino) and with a sensible deep strike you can catch them off gaurd and deal some serious damage (Grey Knights teleport attack), I say sensible because they can turn their guns on you if too deep in. I wouldn't keep your army together tightly, the last thing you want is to be boxed in by a faster moving army which also hits harder, which is what your opponent would love (they don't need to reveal a LoS to deal damage). Don't under estimate the power of Rhinos, they're cheap, robust and delivers killing blows, this is very true for sisters but equally as true for IST. The man sized infantry is what you should target as they will deal the majority of the damage and capture objectives.
I know this is not helping, but i think it should be posted in the army list forum... Really you are pretty much asking for help with your army list, just without posting an army list.
Best advice is to post the list in its entire-ment (yay for making up words!) It seems like that is what you are doing right now.
Anyways, so that i dont seem like a total weenie, i will try and point out something i saw, you said 'perhaps a BC mixed in there'! Well, to take your Dreadnoughts, you need to select a BC or a GM. So it is a needed model in this army. And i would also advise you to take the elite inquisie, which i think is what you mean by the 'usual inquisie'!
I hope this helps!
Well I won the game... and actually won it with a massacre result.
May I say two thing for anyone playing fluffy lists with united inquisition troops.
Cannoness+ Seraphim. What did they do? They took out the dark reapers hence minimizing the dmg they did to my grey knights.
what did they do then?
they killed a wave serpent carrying harlequins.
what did they do then?
they killed the harlequins at the second round of combat? how? faith point for invurnerable save and faith point for extra initiative.
the Autarch and Farseer both on jetbikes assault the remains. All that is left is the superior and the cannoness. Cannoness fight the Autarch and managed to last 2 round before dieing. Superior kills the farseer and the round the cannoness dies she gets back 2 faith points which she spends for invu save and.... +2 strenght... and... kills the Autarch.
One of the best games of 40k I have played... the emperor favored me and, God I am not opening my 40k bag ever again if these ladies arent in it.
Other than that, the usual... dreads TLLC/ML (3 of them) made him want to hide his ships so I almost had the mobility he should. And well Inq + shooty inquisitor made mince meat of the Wraithlords... guess he should fight against 2 guys with multi-melta, 1 guy with PC and 1 pissed Inquisitor with Psycannon.
Well done! And glad to find another player who knows what Seraphim can do for GKs!
ninjabackhand: point and click, again, really? even after i give you an military term "shock tactic" you still call it point and click.
RIP Warhammer 40,000: 21 Sep 1998 - 24 May 2014
think you mean falcon, as harlequins can not have a wave serpent, also the falcon can only carry 6 just so you know.they killed a wave serpent carrying harlequins.
Otherwise nice to here you won.
- You must set fire to water or you will be extinguished.
hehe probably... I cant be expected to know what the difference between serpents and falcons are... they all look the same to me and they all are hard to kill.... goddamned skimmers....
Funniest thing was it had one of those shields that mean I roll two dice on the dmg chart and he picks the lowest... well as fate would have it I rolled double 6!
nice, only inspires me more to take seraphim and flying cannones 8X
