 I'm thinking of buying an assassin to field in my pure daemonhunters army. I don't want to take the culexus because if looks rubbish, but the callidus seems to shine through. The vinicare seems a bit of a waste and the eversor is just a suicidal killing machine. I like the callidus the most as it has the phase sword and the "word in your ear" ability.
Two schools of thought seem to prevail here:
1) Get a Callidus for exactly the reason you've stated, plus the ability to jump out of combat, and perhaps more importantly than that, polymorphine. Anything that lets you appears RIGHT NEXT to the unit you're having troubles with is priceless.
2) Eversor. Now, i have a fondness for my Eversor - he's amazingly good at destroying Wraithlords, vehicles and a whole many other bad guys in close combat - if you can get him there succesfully - which isn't a huge chore with the extended charge range.
It comes down to personal preference, and a decision based on the armies you'll be facing off against, to be honest.
NOBODY expects the Holy Inquisition!
Our chief weapon is surprise...surprise and fear...fear and surprise....
Our two weapons are fear and surprise... and ruthless efficiency....
Our three weapons are fear, surprise, and ruthless efficiency...
and an almost fanatical devotion to the Emperor....
Our four... no...
Amongst our weapons... Amongst our weaponry...
are such elements as fear, surprise...
I'll come in again.
Two words, hon. DEATH CULT. They're dirt cheap and frickin' deadly if you use them right. Set them amongst a Tau FW cadre, and watch them scatter. Four S4 PW attacks on the charge. Use 3 of them for the price of a Callidus and that 12 attacks. Not too shabby.
I took the callidus for basically the same reasons you want one, plus I play pure Dh too i took the callidus mainly at first for who i was going against i play alotta eldar and orks and calidus EAT orcs (gotta love neural shredder ) and it has saved me many a time especially against wraithlords I have alotta luck with her against wraithlords
but the part I use her most for is her phase blade she shows up anywhere and kills stuff you just gotta love it a
her ability a word in your ear is also usefull but I use it pretty randomly
but polymorphine is where she really becomes usefull the look on my opponents face as i eat his warboss is always priceless
When cities burn and armies turn
and flee in disarray,
Cowards will cry 'tis best to fly
and fight another day,
But warriors know it in their marrow when they
die and fall,
It is better to have fought and lost than not have
fought at all.
the keeper of the stuff!
the knower of werty!
the master of the obvious!
Eversor is my lil pet. Why? Well he is pretty good for 95pts. The assassin is what they are. You gve them a target and thet usually take 6 turns to get the job done. The only thing is that I find the eversor have enough attacks to finish a squad and get to do something else.

The eversor is simply one of the most straightforward and deadliest assassins. Not only is he cheap but if you play your cards right you can get him into CC by turn one if you use infiltrate properly (set up 18 inches away from an enemy unit move 6 assalt 12). He can fire and still get his charge bonus since he counts as stationary while firing. can get up to 10 attacks (considering you roll a 6 for his extra attacks, +1 for the CC weapons, base 3) This guy rules all.
Callidus is a wonderful assassin against small elite armies and armies such as necrons and space marines she has her uses against horde armies but not much. Disrupting enemy battle plans or even setting back that huge squad of genestealers 6 inches away can help determine a battle when you have that extra round of shooting.
Culuxus usually works well when deployed properly, that ap 1 st 5 assault 2 weapon is pretty decent when used against High armor creatures. I am pretty sure you can use them against tyranid hive tyrants and zoeanthropes. God forbid you use them against eldar, makes a real mess of things such as the seer council with your grand master nearby. Dont forget that you can use friendly psykers to boost the number of shots for his spectrum thingy.
Vindicare is useful in cityfights and high terrain boards. That stealth suit of his really helps, its kind of hard to kill him when you hide him in a crapload of ruins. Also keep in mind that you can still use him against vehicles with that turbo penetrator round. Works wonders against nids when that hive tyrant is brought down to one or two wounds. Hell he can even fire into close combat, this really helps against those close combat montser demon princes and large creatures if you tie them up long enough.
You know what they say, if you dont like the weather in houston...go back to where you came from
I've taken the Callidus assasin almost every game I've played in with my DH and haven't regreted it once. The WiYE ability can be worth the points in and of itself if you can use it to its full potential. My favorites include pulling enemy dev squads behind the bunker they were cowering in, costing them 2-3 turns of shooting, pulling skimmers onto diff. terrain, and especially against light transport armies, pulling out their HQ transports into full LOS of my army for some first turn fire works. Also, I've yet to see a more effective way of dealing with a Dev squad thats been positioned well, my friend rarely bothers bringing his Long Fangs anymore as they're cake for this lil girl. The Eversor would be the only other real choice IMHO, as what it can do to small squads is just rediculous. The Vindicare's only real time to shine would be against a small cult chaos army where you could pop off icon bearers and asp champs with ease. Just MHO
Yeh the callidus seems to be very good, like the idea of pulling skimmers into difficult terrain and stuff - always had a prblem with skimmers , just too damn hard to hit.
