Does anyone have any advice for defeating BUGZ and Chaos (Slanesh) with Black Templars??? 2000 pts and I can add Grey Knights (10 of them). If anyone has any ideas, this would be great. I am playing them in a league game and NEVER played against them before....if you can beleive that!? ANy advise would be great and appriciated.
Thanks in advance
PS: I have access to 2 whirlwinds, 1 full assault squad, 1 predator, 2 rhinos (one whirlwind can become an additional rhino!, dread, 30 mairines, 6 terrmies, Crusader and Speeder....4 bikes and a attack bike.....also, vindicare, Inquisitor and GK terrmies and or Kinights.....
use the whirlwinds to destroy gaunt hordes and then assault with terminators.
for stealers you should use whirlwind and try to shoot with heavy bolters and stuff like that...
against the big ones, try to shoot with lascanon\plasma\melta weapons...
try to assault the small ones and keep away from the big ones, or attack them with GK terminators...
and the LRC is really good for gaunt hunting...
and for chaos, just try to rhino rush them using whirlwind as support...
mybe DS some terminators...try to get your assault units into assault fast, cause noise marines are strong close range shooters...
and use the LRC to charge as they are lacking in strong AT... and it will tear up deamons...
Well, lucky for you, both of those armies are usually assaulty, so a shooty army will do good.
Also good for you, I play against these armies quite often, so I can help you out
Tyranids rely on swarming you with hordes of little bugs, which buys time for their hard-hitting big bugs and genestealers to get into combat with you, where they do some serious damage.
Luckily, none of their units block LoS to others, so you can focus all your heavy firepower (AP2) on the big bugs, while using the anti-infantry firepower on the gaunts. A Whirlwind and Predator (all lascannons! rock in this situation, as bugs have very little anti-tank power.
Emperor's Children, on the other hand, have good firepower, and are disgusting in HtH. Down their fast units (Rhinos, Daemon Prince) first and just stay out of close combat if at all possible, even if they are shooty.
As for your army:
HQ isn't much, I'd go for a Chaplain and Emperor's Champion, who ride along with Tactical Squads. The Inquisitor Lord can be very useful, especially with a Daemonhammer and a shooty retinue (include some Acolytes just in case)
For Elites, Terminators are not advised, they'll get butchered in HtH, numbers would be better. The Vindicare will also be helpful for picking off Hive Node mutants (gives gaunts higher Ld) and Chaos Icon Bearers (no icons=no daemons summoned!
Then, for Troops, 3 10-man Squads in Rhinos, with heavy weapons (plasma cannons are nice and flexible), assault weapons (flamers or meltaguns, I'd go for flamers) and powerfists, lots of powerfists. Against EC, you'll go last anyway, and those big bugs have a high T only a powerfist can cure. Use these guys to shoot until the enemy gets too close, then hop out, burninate, and assault. Concentrate their power agaisnt one unit and smash them apart.
Fast Attack, an Assault Squad would be nice. Load up on plasma pistols and powerfists, let the Chaplain ride with them, and you're set. Consider losing their jump packs so they can ride in the Crusader. A Speeder with multi-melta would be nice, it can take out 'nid Zoanthropes, Warriors, and Biovores with one shot, and can deal with Defilers and Predators. Here, teleporting Grey Knights with 2 incinerators will do quite well, provided you don't use them recklessly. Maybe give some squads teleport homers for a nasty surprise.
Heavy Support is easy, Predator w/ lascannons, Whirlwind, and LRC. The Predator hunts armor/big monsters, the Whirlwind kills hordes/keeps enemies pinned, and the LRC acts as a fire magnet, mowing down infantry in the process, and maybe carrying a jump-pack-less Assault Squad.
Basic strategies are easy, shoot them and then bash them to a pulp.
very good advise! I like the assault squad minus the packs! frees up points! My HQ is pretty much a High MARSHALL with Term Armour with 2 lightingclaws! I usually place him with Termies to Deep strike OR jump outta my crusader!
Thing is, with the new vehicle rules, units CAN NOT jump out of the Rhino OR LRC and assault same turn, UNLESS they are a Terminator! Unless Im wrong with this???
Maybe Ill do that.... Ill use a Chaplain too and add him to my assault squad MINUS the packs....though I do like the 12 " move!
Thanks....very good advise from both people!
sorry for the back to back post....but I read the rules on the assault marines a tad bit closer.....you CANT remove the jump packs on the Black Templar Assault Marines! DOH!!!! this throws a brick into the plan.... I guess its back to the drawing board! LOL...
Any good ideas on fighting the Eldar and Dark Eldar? might as well pick people's brains.... remember.... Black Templars
Eldar or Dark Eldar=Whirlwind, ooooooooh yeah
As for the Black Templars you have to have the Emperor's Champion in you're army. You have to. Also keep in mind that he is an Independent Character and cannot be attached to a squad.
I think ====Me==== covered the rest.

Also, under the TVR, you cannot assault out of a moving vehicle, ever, Terminator or not.
not even Terrmies???? At our club, even the oldest and brightest thought that Termies could do it! I guys we are all a bunch of retards....must read the rules again.
WHICH brings me to my next statement.... What a stupid rule for a Crusader and regular Land Raider.....the ONLY thing that they were made for was to unload troops and Terrmies right into assault! WHICH then makes them worthless if you cant unload Terrmies right into an assault. Ill explain...
Say you move into range for an assault and unload your termies. They can fire off all their weapons and also the Storm Bolters of the LRC. THEN if thre are still enemies left, you MIGHT be screwed ass you just killed off all enemies within assault range..... now, if you DONT shoot, you know they will!!!! I think they really need to redo this rule for CERTAIN vehicles.... whats the point of wasting 255 points if you cant jump out of that thing and assault!
Well, if rumors are true, the LR and LRC will allow you to assault out of the front, makes sense and makes LRs worth all those points
Generic Tactics against Dark Eldar
Kill these first, everything else is easy:
1) Archon/Dracon with Incubi retinue (usually mounted in a raider)
3) HQ on Jetbike
4) Talos (but it only moves 6" so you have time to take out the others first)
5) Any unit carying a WebWay Portal. He'll use something fast or Deep Strike to penetrate your lines, drop the portal and warp in 3 Talos, just see if he doesn't. Park a Tank over the portal though and he can't use it (I think).
1) Use bolters and heavy bolters against Jet Bikes (even if it has a tooled up Archon riding it), using HS on a bike is a waste. Quantity of fire is better than quality.
2) A small Dev Squad with 4x ML (using the blast) will wreck most Troop squads down to a single model and you can range his Sniper Squads. Failing that use Heavy Bolters since they can mow down troops AND shoot down his Transports.
3) Powerfists are wasted points. He doesn't have anything tougher than a 4 unless he takes a Talos (T7), but you'd be a fool (or desperate) to engage it in HtH, even with a Dreadnaught.
4) Respect the Dark Lance and Blaster, they are S8 and instant death to Marines and most Tanks don't survive past turn 3. I don't own any Whirlwinds so you might be able to hide them, but his Transports can either Deep Strike (with War Gear) or use thier normal 24" movement to quickly assault your Whirlwinds. The size of your board will probably dictate how effective they are.
5) If you catch his wytches in the open, shoot them, even over other targets. They'll die easily to one round of bolter fire but will tie you up endlessly in HtH.
I play UltraMarines so I can't be more specific to your Chapter, but my only opponent is a Dark Eldar player.
