First of all I want to apologize if this subject has already been posted.
I've looked at the DA as well as the new BA list and have noticed that for most squad you either have to choose between taking 5 or 10 models ( Tactical, scout, Devastator, etc). In the previous edition or with the vanilla SM codex, you can choose the number of marines in a squad just as it fulfills the min of 4 marines and a sergeant.
I'm starting a DA army and would like an independent character to join a Tactical squad in a rhino but this rule would limit me to only 5 marines with my character in a rhino which I feel would be somewhat limiting/underpower. I don't like to stick my character with a command squad due to the higher point cost. This also applies to terminator character with a terminator squad. If I want a termie character to join a termi squad then I would have to upgrade the transport to a LRC which is somewhat of a point sink.
Is there something in the codex that I've missed and how do you guys feel about this?
I think the idea is to make the armies more in tune with the background, note how specific peices of wargear are only available to special characters now, and I think it's probably supposed to encourage you to take a command squad, as, in the background, HQ choices would almost always be accompanied by a bodyguard. I'm annoyed at the new way they're doing SM lists too, mainly for the wargear limitations. I can't wait to see how they butcher my beloved Space Wolves..
