Hi guys. I posted this over in the fluff forum a while ago but I thought it would be more at home here. It’s some background for my in-progress Guard army that I wrote at work while I should have been... working. I’ve posted the 1500 pt list as well. When I get a camera I plan to post pics of my guys in this thread as I paint them, mainly to help motivate me (I'm not looking forward to doing stacks of nearly identical infantrymen but it has to be done!)
The doctrines of this regiment are Iron Discipline, Close Order Drill, Sanctioned Psykers, Veterans and Hardened Fighters.
THE 41st SKYTHIAN RIFLES
The 41st Skythian Rifles hail from the small, rocky and inhospitable world of Skythia near the Cadian Gate. The Skythians have a highly militarized society influenced strongly by the nearby Cadian civilization, and have inherited much of their equipment and training techniques from them. Like Cadia, the primary resource which Skythia provides to the Imperium is its manpower. There are a total of 398 Skythian regiments on active service, and a further 212 serving as the Skythian PDF. The tithed regiments are numbered 1 to 398,
and the PDF regiments are those numbered 399 to 610.
Though similar in many ways to their famous cousins, the Skythian military also differs from that of Cadia in several respects. Skythia boasts a military aristocracy, and the Skythian officer classes place great importance on personal courage and ferocity. This means that, in comparison with the Cadians, the Skythian regiments place less emphasis on teamwork and more on the individual resourcefulness and ability of the officers. Young sons of Skythian officer dynasties are encouraged to engage in dangerous honour duels with deadly broadswords, and to develop a cold and unflappable exterior which inspires confidence in their men in even the most dire situations. The rank and file, who are drawn almost exclusively from the lower classes, are expected to cultivate the virtues of competence, courage and above all obedience and trust in their superiors. It is said that while a Cadian trusts in his team-mates, a Skythian trusts in his officer; unless he is an officer - in which case he trusts in himself and the Emperor!
Skythia's proximity to the Eye of Terror means that there is a relatively high proportion of psychic individuals among the population, and the 3rd moon of Skythia is home to an Ordo Hereticus Inquisitorial stronghold. The planet itself also hosts several major shrines guarded by Adepta Sororitas Commanderies. Skythian regiments are often seconded to Ordo Hereticus Inquisitors facing particularly powerful threats.
The 41st have a history spanning over 800 years, and their colours record thousands of battles on hundreds of worlds. Currently the regiment is under the command of Colonel Falken Kimmerian, though several elements of the first company have been seconded to Inquisitor John Cavendish. The 41st are an infantry regiment - armoured support is traditionally provided to them by the 2nd Knights of Skythia, an ancient and honourable tank division.
Command Squad: Heroic Senior Officer (power weapon, bolt pistol, Iron Discipline, Macharian Cross), flamer, Commissar (power weapon, bolt pistol), Sanctioned Psyker, Hardened Fighters, Fire Support Squad (3 heavy bolters)
Adepta Sororitas Canoness (Jump pack, Cloak of St. Aspira, power weapon, inferno pistol, frags)
7 Veterans (2 melta guns, flamer), Veteran Sergeant (power fist, Honorifica Imperialis, melta bombs) Hardened Fighters
6 Veterans, lascannon, vox
Junior Officer (power weapon, bolt pistol, Iron Discipline), vox, Commissar (power fist, bolt pistol), flamer, Sanctioned Psyker, Hardened Fighters
3 Infantry Squads (2 lascannons, autocannon)
Armoured Fist (Autocannon, vox/Chimera, heavy bolter, hull heavy bolter, extra armour, smoke launchers, searchight, camo netting)
9 Sisters of Battle (Heavy flamer, storm bolter) Veteran Superior (Book of St. Lucius, krak grenades)
Leman Russ Hull heavy bolter, heavy bolter sponsons, extra armour, smoke launchers
I realize my list is not geared to win in any major way, but I like the units and it's fun to use, so I'd prefer comments on the fluff rather than like "lose hardened fighters and psykers and take drop troops and three squads of melta vets."
What do you guys think? And thanks for reading if you made it this far!

Hey sisters of battle. Kudos man. I like the army as a whole there are several things i would probably change though. If your going to take sanctioned psykers you might as well try and get the most out of them. I would give them all force weapons, then the one in the command squad an honorifica maybe. If you do give one an honorifica keep the commisar away from him. The Cannoness may have a hard time making her points back since she is all alone with the jump pack. It makes here easier to pick off with shooting, course it lets her get into combat faster too. Maybe drop the 3 heavy bolters and take some seraphim? All in all this is a pretty cool army, I love sisters of battle the faith points rock. I mean come on any roll to wound of a 6 can be ap 1? whats there not to like.
Rheagar fought nobly
Rheagar fought valiantly
Rheagar fought honorably
And Rheagar died.
Hmm. Seraphim would be nice. I have some of them, so I could easily stick them in. And seeing as the command squads are all Hardened Fighters my psykers are a mighty WS3! So maybe I should give them force weapons just in case.
I think you might be right about the Canoness too. She is great in my witch hunter's army but in a guard army she'll be all alone... out the front... getting shot.
I'm just putting the finishing touches on my HSO. He looks pretty cool.
Great work mate! I like it as a whole (especially the fluff) but agree wiht the possability of dropping the Heavy Bolterrs to get some Seraphim
