    Cheap Greatcoat/Trenchcoat minis

The question was posed to me in another posting about cheap sci-fi minis and I made this as a suggestion for IG. It hit me though that a lot of people might be interested in this one that would never see that post in General Discussion.

So, here is a link to a new company that makes metal models in long coats with gas masks. They also offer a wide variety of heads for some great conversion potential. They are perfectly scaled for 40k. The minis are 1.40 GBP apiece, so that blows Forge World out of the water.

    Hope that helps someone!

Here is a review that might help you decide if they are for you.

Oooooh. Those Heavy Infantry look like they would make DAMN good stormtroopers.
The name refers to facial hair, not playing style.

Those are really sweet. Maybe... better than my Steel Legion minis.

I have been using those respirator helmets on my guardsmen for the last 2 or so years. They obviously look better than anything GW comes up with.

    @ Wraithguardian and other pig-ironers:

got any pics you could post?? The rebel heads are quite inspiring... But I'd like to see how they fit on GW torsos before I start buying everything in their range. Maybe some pics of PI minis next to GW ones, for size comparisons?

So how are they cheap? It is 34 bucks for 10 minis. But I do agree that they look cool.
Where the heck did all them guardsmen come from?

Great Wolf! Is that the howl of the 13th?

I bought a bunch of Pig Iron troopers and found them to be a bit wanting.

They are nowhere near the detail or finish that GW gives in their minis - don't let the pretty pictures deceive you.

Also, they are smaller than the traditional guardsman. It's like, if you put them side by side, they are just a few centimeters smaller all around.

They look AWESOME painted, but as for the model itself - very amateurish and odd. Body parts look like twisted greenstuff. Arms and legs look very amateurish and fake - not natural.

The only cool item is the tank and the variants therefore.

I have 3 that I won on eBay for dirt, and they are really nice. Sadly, when you put the armor next to your troops, the troops look bad.

When you put Pig Iron troops next to your troops, their troops look bad. ;?

    OVERALL:

So, overall, I'd say order a small batch if you are interested, but I simply put the troopers away in a shoebox.

As for the tanks, they are sweet, and I am planning on using one in lieu of a Russ, and the other two as armored fists.

They are very heavy and well crafted. Bits are molded from metal and the bodies are solid resin frames. The resin cuts easily allowing for some conversion or weathering/battle scarring work.

Stick to the armor, avoid the troops and buy a Forgeworld thing or two and be merry!

    Peace.
