I've been looking up the IG codex and noticed two things I wanted to ask about Creed and Kell:
1- Other special caracters specify that they cannot take on extra gear whereas it is mentionned nowhere in Creed and Kells profil.
2- There's a line that mentions that kell is an officer and has all the privileges of an officer. Those this mean he form a command squad and take on support squads as well?
Its just insanely poorly edited. I've talked to all sorts of people (as I frequently use Creed in games over 1500pts, especially all infantry armies) and this is how I understand it:
Creed is an officer (has the Leadership rule) and cannot be given other equipment. It is just implied by being a special character as no special character to my knowledge can be so customized.
Kell has the "command rule" which I'm sure is implied to be the Leadership rule, but I don't think people will allow it as it is stretching things a bit. They'd be even better - a LD 10 guy giving his leadership for 12" around and a leadership 8 guy with a reroll giving his leadership for 12". Kell cannot however have a squad around him nor can he take on support squads etc.
I use Creed & Kell in all my armies 1500+, they rock.
This is how I interepret them, they both must be used exactly as listed in the codex - this is said - or along the lines - in paragraph 2 after the story rubbish.
I don't actually believe that it clearly states that they are an officer, however, they both have iron discipline right? Referring to the iron discipline bit it says that only officers can have this ability, thus saying that Creed & Kell are officers. No dude, as good as this would be, you can't back it up, Kell is NOT a platoon or a command squad, the priveliges of an officer bit just means the command special rule, as with Creed.2- There's a line that mentions that kell is an officer and has all the privileges of an officer. Those this mean he form a command squad and take on support squads as well?
I would also like to hear from other players who take Creed & Kell, and there interpretations.
This does keep on popping up (i asked too about 6 months ago:
They come as is. No acces to wargear (or it'd say)
They come in addition to your compulsory command squad choice,(not it says 1 command squad, not 0-1 in the codex) but do not get to add on support squads (They're HQ pick 2 of a IG list)
They can be used in cadian only forces: However cadian forces are not restricted to the list of doctrines at back of book (As per the paragraph that precedes that section) - Beware though, some tournaments have house rules that change this. (Cadians are by the doctrines listed in the codex (house rule))
They are both independant characters - even together they do not score (although may use the listed bodyguard special rule)
Creed, as rules are written is NOT a officer. He does not have the leadership special rule, nor a 12" spere of influence. He can join and lead a squad, and they get his LD. - Many people assume that as he's the High commander of etc etc he is, And it's not that bad a assumption as he comes with iron discipline, but that's a special rule, thus why it's listed under the heading "special rules"
Kell is - it states he is a officer under his special rules.
Besides, what's the problem - you're getting him for the sole purpouse of re-rolling going first, keep him (and his VP's) away from the enemy at all times (Kell can run off and WS5 powerfist something though - he's free) What's your gunline going to miss - twin linked hellpistols? Re-rolling LD8 is far better than LD 10 (statistically)

I get what your all saying. It's as I thought but I figured that I'd ask anyway just to make sure. Hope the next codex will clear things a little.
