My friend thinks that whatever models that get overcome by the Red Thirst are then subtracted from the points cost because the Death Company members are "free". But I believe it to be that w/e model that is overcome by the Red Thirst still counts towards the points costs but his upgrade to Death Company is free. Can someone clarify this for me and my friend. Thank you
when a unit becomes a death company guy, the opponent gets the victory points as if that unit was killed. thats what i think, anyway
Well technically no there not free. You buy your units then you roll to see if they join them. So the Death company is really worth what unit became part of the company.

Yeah death company are "free", but when they become dc they count as casulties (i think) so they auto count for victory points, but you dont pay for them. So if a terminator becomes death company, you automatically coutn 42 points of your victory points or whatever. Clarify this someone im to lazy to get my codex.
Back from a long adventure.
thats what i tried to say too
That’s right. Any model removed from any unit is considered casualties at the start of the game. This is included for figuring out if a unit is below 50% for moral checks. It is just like the model was killed before the battle, but instead of removing him he is sent over to the death company.
The point value for the death company is included in the cost of the chaplain. This makes the unit hard to get points out of since in order to get any victory points for damaging the unit you must wound or kill the chaplain. If you kill every death company member but the chaplain remains un harmed you will receive no victory points for destroying the squad.
Alternately if 3 out of a 5 man squad fall to the "black rage" that unit would give you 50% victory points as it will have suffered 50% casualties even before the fight starts, this same unit would also suffer a -1 to there leadership tests due to being below 50% starting size.
I hope this clears up any questions you might have about the death company.
Yes thank you that clarifies many of the questions I had in mind but I still don't get if they are subtracted from the points cost of the army, and then is he able to put on that many more points on later or is it counted towards my victory points and then he gets nothing more than an upgrade to Death Company or w/e???
the death company are considered already dead when speaking of points, so actually killing them doesnt earn him any more points
I thought that if the DC were able to roll two wounds. If their first armor save failed then they could try again and if they survived the second time then they'd still be alive until the end of the battle. At the end of the battle that particluar model dies because the wounds are too severe to go on. Your opponent would get victory points for them. Am I answering the right question or did I just state something else? I'm sorta sleepy so sorry if i did.
Hi I'm the guy that owns the death company, and my friend is arguing with me. Now, to clarify, the question is: Say I have a squad (ex. 1 tactical squad of 150 points), and 1 of them joins the death company, does the tactical squad get reduced to 135 points, because of one man is no longer in the squad, or is it still 150 points?
