Ive gathered up a small bunch of combi-weapons from the various boxes and blisters I have been buying but I have yet to put them on any models or in any lists.
Do you like to use them on HQ units or veteran sergeants? are they worth the points? Having a one shot melta or plasma gun is nice, but is it really worth losing a close combat attack?
Oh there's a thought, maybe a veteran bike sergeant?
Well, I would appreciate your thoughts on the issue.

Depends how you play really, they can be great if they take a tank out, but you have to way it up, extra attack or chance at a tank kill. On Bike Sergeant, I'd say could be good, boost to rear of a tank and unleash 3 melta shots to the back. I'd say overall in some cases yes, in others no. Up to your style of play.
currently, as marines dont have uber-grit like their chaos comrades, combi weapons are generally of little use, since we have to sacrifice getting the +1 attack for two single handed weapons. However there's one case where I think they are very useful, and that is on terminator sergeants. cheap way to boost your firepower when you deep strike, and if you're using a plasma, overheating isn't much of an issue with the 2+ armour. (side note: i was using this long before the revised chaos codex came out so no i did not get the idea from the chaos 'dex)

Some space wolves do have true grit. Space Wolves are one of them. You have to think as to what use it will serve; remember you only get one combi shot.

hey this is kind of another question, but i run an imperial fists army with 4 squads of shooting terminators with 2 assult cannons. I was wondering if the combi plasma would be helpful on the sergent in this case or if i should save the forty points somewhere.
very useful in this case, i'ld go for it

I use a tank hunting bike squad sometimes, if I know my opponent will be armour heavy and I think the sergant with combi-melta and a power fist is essential. I don't think overall though its worth it, in most cases as most people say its not worth losing the +1 attack, although in some cases its a good idea (like the deep striking termie idea to compare to the chaos tricks)
