Ok i'm thinking of doing an imperial guard regiment but i hate the HQ command squad and i would rather have a special character, so do you have to have the command squad cos it has a 1 next to it so does this mean the whole 1+ deal of later codex's or is it specifically to confuse me. I have asked several people and they are evenly split between yes and no and to be frankt he GW people i asked seemed more interested in telling me the entire history of warhammer than answering my question so any help qould be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
you take one command squad. any special character is taken as a second HQ.
If it was meant to be 1+, it would say 1+. If it was meant to be 0-2, it would say '0-2'.
Just the way it is.
However, you can always take an allied Grey Knight as well as the officer, for example
"Pickles, the drummer, doodily doo. (Ding-dong, doodily, doodily, doo.)"
Also, you should google "garfield minus garfield". Awesome.
Kk well there goes my hope of sticking the command squad in a hole but meh.
Thanks for clarification anyway guys.
What don't you like about Command HQ Squads? You need their leadership and they let you take such useful heavy weapons teams?
If you don't like the senior officer, you can take Solar Macharius. He's a senior officer that takes a command squad and is way more badass than any other officer and you can decide whether or not you what to start the game.
I used him once with schaeffer + 10 lascannon. Result= total fluff.
But yeah, you do need a command squad.

Rheagar fought nobly
Rheagar fought valiantly
Rheagar fought honorably
And Rheagar died.
just take a Jo with no equipment and a bare squad, they have SO many uses
They can be a secondary objective taker (whos gona bother wasting shots on a 5 lasgun squad?)
Counter assault unit (if you use it right it buys you another turn of rapid fire)
Shooting test (put them in front of your gun line. at least your opponet will have to take a test to see if they can shoot at your usefelness)
If you run a heavy tank list then keep them next to an exposed tank flank. that way you can at least tie up an extra turn before your tanks start getin CCed
The command squad can be very useful when kited out but they can be just as usefull bare-naked with a moderate use of tactics (i run my command squad and my 2 platoon commanders all naked and just use the above tactics)
Lets just say i need to replace officers often in my armys
"Thank him who puts me loath to this revenge on you who wrong me not for him who wrongd"
