Hey, for a army after I finish with my Necrons I am interested in building a 1000 - 1500 point force, I am leaning towards a mechanized or storm trooper heavy list? I have not got the codex but any recomendations? I'm just stirring up ideas.
I would recommend you purchase the Codex as soon as possible. Both Mechanised and Storm Trooper heavy lists are very viable (As is the combination of the two, with Grenadiers as troops and Veterans with Carapace as Elites all in Chimerae. I have used a list similar to this to great effect) but not if you try and use the Imperial Guard's normal trait of having superior numbers or if you want to make a gunline. Mobility is the key here.
Well, rumours have it that this summer will bring plastic stormtroopers, a great benefit too IG players as guard armies are men heavy and plastic armies are cheaper to collect.
Personally i always advise new players to think of a period in history or a specific theme to base their armies on, this will help to felsh it out a little more. By deciding fluff you can base your army on something more personal than just powergaming.
Say for instance you like the us marines, you could then make the IG an elite force that comes from the auspices of the imperial navy and not the imperial guard. etc etc
Got a "good" rumour from a GW staffer? Forget about it, LO'ers know more than any random GW shop staffer.

I did Guard as a second army to my Chaos Marines and I'm glad I did. They play much differently from a typical MEQ force and yet are quite viable. Since you're still in the idea stage, do consider a standard IG force (maybe with lots of stormtroopers in it). Elite units don't always feel elite if the force is completely made up of them, and stormies picking up the grunts' slack will feel pretty cool. Mechanized is good but I find 3 Russes and a couple Hellhounds scratches the armor itch nicely.

Well i'm doing an Amrored Company and i have
A command Leman Russ Battle Tank, a Tank Ace Leman Russ Conqurer (Command Tank 0-2 choices, Ace 0-2 choices) 2 Leman Russ Battle Tanks (All Leman Russ have Hull mounted Lascannon and sponson Heavy Bolters). 2 Basilisks with inderect fire, 6 Setinels, (all with Autocannons)
It equals like 1411 Points.
I reccomand checking out the Armored Company rules under IG on GW.com
