I'm putting together a DH army(i play Ig and Eldar) and don't know which is the better pick for a tank with termies,a LR or a LRC in a DH army,i know our tankhunting is pretty crappy, which makes the Lascannons look better than the heavy bolters.
What do you all suggest?
I like to run two Land Raiders and one Crusader. All three look very intimating, and my opponent doesn't know if he wants to fire at the Crusader carrying 8 terminators or fire at the Land Raiders with two twin-linked lascannons each. I like to give my Land Raiders a Pintle-Mounted Storm Bolter so it can mow down some infantry with that and its heavy bolter too, but it becomes very costly. It all depends on what army your opponent is though.
5 wins, 2 draws, 1 loss
To me the LR does not even exist as it is not even close to being as useful as the LRC. The crusader currently is far better at killing infantry and is just as good at killing tanks as the the normal LR. The only weakness is that it has shorter range then the LR but since you almost never have more then a 24" no mans land and the fact that the crusader can move 6" and still fire all weapons at full BS this is not much of a problem if you know what you are doing.
If you want anti tank generally dreadnought are best either the basic build or with lascannon / missle launcher. Also ISTs / Inquisitor + guards with melta in rhinos can work well too, and if you use allies some seraphim with inferno pistols are a nice anti-tank / CC support unit.
Note: I own 5.5k DH / 3K marines and in that I got 3 crusaders / 4 dreadnoughts but I dont own a single normal LR and even if someone gave me one I would never field it over the crusader or a pair of dreadnoughts. Hope this helps.
- You must set fire to water or you will be extinguished.
Although, if you are a "Water Warrior" (a Judo-like way to play) the normal Land Raider is recommended. Not my style though. Another advantage of the normal LR is that it can also be used as a dedicated transport for WH and DH Inquisitors. This gives you some flexibility.
I really don't think you can go wrong with either choice. How's that for helpful?
I'm planning on getting a second LRC and using magnets so that it can be made into a LR on a whim. However, since GW closed down their bits ordering, this is going to be more painful a project than it once was.
