I am a reasonably veteran space marine player and im starting a small 13th company Space Wolves list( for strictly freindly games). And i was just wondering if any of you guys have and tips on modeling or playing that could help a young wolf lord out.
There are a few ways that you can go with 13th Company... I always love running an army of Wulfen...
As if you give your Lord the mark of Wulfen they become the Troop choice its great. The catch is that you have to take long fangs to handle those vehilces that you can't take out in CC. But with a scout move a fleet move and all the joys you will be assaulting most enemies by the 2nd turn.
THey can be a fun and challenging army when you consider that it is an army of Veteran Sergeants or better! The only thing which I've found that they lack is some good armour penetrating power although in a normal 13th company list you will use your grey slayers for that.
Don't know if that will help. They are definitly fun to play and you should always take a rune prist in your army. "Gate" Psychic power rocks!
yeah i love the Gate psychic power, so much fun when my army disapears only to reappear. i thought about the wulfen idea but i dont know if i can buy them anymore or where i could. And i really like Grey Slayers. All i know is that im going to have alot of storm Claw bikers. Do you have any good modelling tips that you used on yours?
I find one of the best things you can do is get the space wolf boxes and some chaos boxes. Then you mix and match till your heart is content.
With bikes I use both chaos and marine bikes and mix them together.
In the end it give you the right feel that is the 13th company.
I've found that is the easiset way to do it.
When it comes to the wolves obviously the best way to go is with Goblin Wolf Riders. Although with the new vampire counts Dire wolves they could also be used as being in the warp so long they have mutated somewhat.
Of course the joy in all this is in the end you have a lot left over in a bits box for later.
Hope those ideas help you.
With the wulfen the only thing I can think of is check the GW site and see where you can get them from. I get a feeling the US still stocks them as well as the UK.
Alterantivley if you are any good with green stuff you can convert some yourself.
For the wolves i was thinking either the plastic goblin wolves or for the warped version some hounds of chaos because their poses are pretty awsome. And for the bikes would you use the marine Bikes or the Chaos bikes for the actual bikes, i like the chopper bars on the chaos bikes.
I do like the Chaos bikes... I guess the thing is that they have been in the warp for so long fighting chaos they have to scavange what they can after each battle to repair or replace their own weapons.
The thing that has always put me off the chaos hounds is that they are metal... I like plastic kits although they do suit the 13th company.
i did forget that they are metal, which is a downer. i think ill still give them a shot. im off to bed but ill keep you updated as my company grows stronger. thanks for the help
Will love to hear how you go. They can be hard to get used to although they can really rock!
