Hi all, could someone please clarify if the item that hangs below a landspeeder supplied in the Warhammer 40k starter kit is a weapon or not. The details I have seen elsewhere are not too clear on this. I only play it using the Heavy Bolter and would appreciate further advice.

    cheers Toddy

No, I believe what you're talking about is just a sensor. The only landspeeder that has a weapon below it is a landspeeder tornado.

The only weapon on a standard Land Speeder is mounted on the rail in front of the gunner. There is a "forked" antenna out front, and the thing on the bottom is there for you to break off when you aren't paying attention. Actually I think it is a sensor array of some type.

The Tornado does have an additional weapon that is usually modeled under the front of the speeder, but its pretty obvious as a weapon. It looks exactly like a flamer or assault cannon.

If you look at modern day aircraft most "high performance" planes have the same type of sensor. It is used to record airspeed, temperature ect ect.
As far as that thing on the bottom goes, your guess is as good as mine.

Landspeeders cant tank shock. I belive it senses the landspeeders hight and also any dangerous lumps in the ground that they could hit while flying low. I also heard that the pilots frequently turn them off, to save power.

Thanks guys, a terrain following sensor seems a reasonable explanation although I like the idea of the antenna as a cattle (humanoid) prod.
