Ok, so I've had a project in mind for some time now and am having trouble on choosing a Lysander Wing company or Deathwing company.
The plan is to use Red Scorpions that would incorporate one of these rules. At first I really wanted a pure Deathwing army, but recently have been hearing some nice things about the Lysander Wing. My understanding is that under the Lysander Wing one must choose some basic troops (i.e. Space Marines in Power Armor)?
I would like to have a competitive list, but enjoy an all or nothing approach. My goal is still to have mainly Terminators, Land Raiders and Dreadnoughts.
I'd love to hear peoples opinions on this!
My suggestion would be to use the Deathwing over the 'Lysanderwing', for two reasons.
1. The Lysanderwing must still include 2 troops choices, which will probably end up as 2 scout units with Teleport Homers (at least, traditionally). This means that there is no way for you to get 'pure' 1st Company (at least, conventionally. You could make up some stuff about how your chapter copies the Wolf Scouts of the Space Wolves or something, I suppose...). Deathwing gives you the option of JUST having termies. Yay!
2. The 'regular' Space Marine codex will be changing (probably) in October. There is a fairly decent chance that Lysander will change, at least to some extent. This means that you have (at most) 5 months of playing with your lysanderwing before it has to be changed... Deathwing aren't going anywhere for the forseeable future...
Just what I think, though.

Hmmm...very good point. Now I just need to come up with a fun list!
Well i agree that it would screw up ur 1st company having scouts but you would get the second assualt cannon per squad and be able to bring your entire army in at once due to lysander which i find is an awesome advantage.
Warning this user is totally insane...
The problem is, with the last DA codex Deathwing went from being a tough army to play to being a downright bad list.
If you want to be any sort of competitive, Lysanderwing is your only choice, and it should lose most of it's cheese factor when the changes to rending happen.
Don't bother having anything more than meaningless small talk on this forum, the moderators won't allow it
I agree that the "Lysanderwing" is better, if you include scouts with teleport homers as troops. But I suspect that with the release of the new SM Codex Scouts are going to be moved to the Elite section in order to conform with the DA and BA codecies, so that might not be such a good idea to start building a big Lysander Termie army based on the current rules...
Of course you could always build the army and leave it unpainted...and then when the new rules come out you can make your choice then, It would only really involve buying a couple more models to turn "Lysanderwing" into Deathwing or vice versa.
I was just about ask "What changes you think may happen with Lysanderwing?" hehe. I'm very anxious to start this project though. Those Red Scorpions looks so awesome!
I'm thinking a full CC Red Scorpion (DW) Company now with 2 x LRCs. Suicide? Obviously I'll have more, but I think I'd ratehr go shooty or CC....preferably CC.
Looks likely that the new Codex SM will also (maybe) limit termies to one heavy weapon per squad, meaning you will be no better off in that department
If Lysander make the new dex, and if he allows SM termies to be taken as a troops choice as is rumoured likely, then the choice between DW or Lysanderwing comes down to whether you think DW assault is better (50% squads arriving T1) or Teleport Attack (all squads maybe arriving T2) is better.
This is debatable, and still leaves the DW ahead in being Fearless and being able to mix regular with assault termies.
Obviously, if Lysander doesn't allow termies as troops then you are cutting down on your potential scoring units when 5th ed arrives. In which case you'd bbe bettter with the DW.
Now, currently in 4th ed, with Lysanderwing you need to 'waste' two troop slots on Scouts, with DW and Belial you can fill all your elite and troop choices with termies should you desire, but, as has already been pointed out, Codex SM squads get the better squad options with regards weapons and wargear.
So, it will depend on whether the project is long or short term. Long term go DW, short term go Lysanderwing.
