I just bought some stuff to make my own tank. Can i use the tank i make in a battle? or should i just make a torret? If i can use my tank, how do i put stats on it. (it wouldent seem fair to give it stright 14s).
Look in the Vehicle deseign rules in the Chapter approved book (2003 or 2004 I forget), it gives very detailed rules for using your home grown vehicles and conversions.
*Fart* "Keep talking sir, we'll find you!"
Although you can't use it in most (any) tournaments.
Yeah, then what about a shadow sword torret?
It's the same story are scrach built or modified vehicle should go through the Vehicle Design Rules in CA 03. There you will get all the rules and points cost involved in playing with it.
Althou you do need your opponent's approval to play with them i don't see many players refusing to as vehicles built in this way end up more expensive than their original counter-part. Just make sure they are a little flufy.....

i think its kewl and u should be able to use ur own tank, just as long as u add the appropriate points

I like the idea of building your own tank but wouldn't it get annoying haveing to spend 100's of dollars on different packs just to get the desired few pieces.

well im not to sure how other model companys do it but when i want to make a cool tank conversion for my guard i usally just buy the seperate sprues from gw's website. I wanted to make my chimera look like a bradley APC, so i was able to order the tow missle sprue and the terret sprue over the phone. the person wasnt very happy with opening up a box and taking out seperate sprues they said "its to much trouble" yea right that bulls*hit lol, but as for makign ur own tank, do it. its cooler if u can make it match with your army fluff.

I've found that to be a major problem. Im a right poor basstud, and when I'd like to do a conversion for a new vehicle, say, I'm majorly put off because on a sprue that costs maybe a fiver, I'll need maybe only one or two pieces.
Tis fecking annoying.
"It fits like clothes made out of wasps!"
So go down to the local toyshop, and buy some of their awesome looking tanks, there's always one or two that'll catch your eye. Then just order the weapons, and you've got a much easier time. Converting and painting it could be a bit harder, seeing as the toy would be pre-painted, but you'll save some money.
