I hope a similar thread hasn't been posted on this topic, sorry if it has.
I have always grumbled about our lack of anti-tank in the DH arsenal, and in the past people were always trying to justify this with the fluff of the DH.
With the release of the new Daemons Codex, there is now a dedicated Daemon worth hunting with tank-killing power: The Soulgrinder.
In my mind, we should have always been justified to take lascannon type weapons for killing possessed Chaos Vehicles, defiliers, and even monstrous creatures. Now it seems even more justified with the Soulgrinder thrown into the mix.
It only seems fair that DH should get a heavy weapon meant specifically for hunting this foe. It doesn't have to be too incredible, a Strength 8 AP3 Heavy would do for me. That way, a purgation squad would seem to have a specific purpose by being able to carry some actual heavy weapons.
Perhaps I am alone in thinking this, however.
Fantasy: Daemons (Angels), 40k: Black Templars
There have always been ample examples in the fluff that would seem to justify the use of heavy weapons by the Grey Knights and Ordo Malleus in general. Soulgrinders? What about defilers, or possessed vehicles of all kinds? Monstrous creatures?
Really, the denial of heavy weaponry has never been, and really never can be, properly justified by the fluff. It'd be easier to accept if GKs were actually as potent in assault as the fluff wants us to believe. But since that isn't the case...
... all we can do is shrug our shoulders and soldier on!
ninjabackhand: point and click, again, really? even after i give you an military term "shock tactic" you still call it point and click.

Just wondering out loud really, but have any of the 40K Novels ever had references to GK's facing off against armoured vehicles, and if so how did they deal with them.
I've read both of Ben Counter's books and have seen no such references but don't know about any other books.....I think it would be interesting to see if there's a 'storyline' precedent.
Now I think about it, in those 2 Novels the GK's haven't even got any Thunder Hammers, only Dvorn's Nemesis Hammer....so even that option isn't available to them (in the novels).
Well, Haulvarn and Dvorn chucked a few meltabombs into the Castigator Titan's reactor core at the end of Dark Adeptus, but that's the only case of GK versus Vehicle combat in the fluff, as far as I know.
The GK's definitely need an option for AT firepower other than Land Raiders, Dreadnoughts and borrowed Guardsmen. Spaar's idea for a missile launcher or equivalent would be great, even (or maybe especially) if it's a Purgation squad only weapon - they'd finally have a valid reason to exist.
Yes, it would be cool if you guys would get some new toys for your Dreads or heavy weapon squads... As it is now, I am happy to use basic GKs for their CC kick in my WH army, but I would not see myself doing a parent GK list due to difficulty that you guys have with dealing with armored targets...
