Well, I saw the new rule book in store today and had a chance to go over some of the main concepts that changed (Nearly 2 hours of reading). A lot of things changed, perhaps not in a way I wanted. Just some of the things I noticed:
Models with BS value over 5 now get rerolls. meaning a model with BS6 will get a reroll, and on a reroll will hit on a 6+. A model with BS 7 will reroll a miss and hit on the reroll of 5+. Great? Yes. Great for IG? NO
Ordnance, now scaters (2d6-BS) value. Meaning a leman russ that rolls a total of 7 on scatter dice, only scatters 4" due to (7 - 3)
Cover, now works for models that arent even in cover. You can have most of the unit behind cover and they will still get cover saves. A model such as a carnifex that has a part of its base in cover can count as being in cover. Now there is a partial cover save of 5+ where a model isnt fully in cover, but is still in cover.
Plus plenty more:
So ... any comments?
yea- our guardsmen will live longer
the hellhound will be a great choice for fast attack
russes hit more
tanks are harder to kill
every single infantry squad can hold an objective, we have 20 possible objective takers, and our opponents only have 4 or 5(blast em away and just stand around all day XD)
Hellhounds are good tanks
Satan - "**** you Kage! And **** you Jables! I'll get you Tenacious DDDDdddddddeeeeee!!!!!!"
That was already the case, with the +50% of the squad in cover rule.Cover, now works for models that arent even in cover. You can have most of the unit behind cover and they will still get cover saves. This hurts I think, we're going to get larger scatters more often now. Not such an issue against a horde unit, but trying to hit a horseshoe or wide circle/box formation of MEQs will be a pain in the arse if it scatters.Ordnance, now scaters (2d6-BS) value. Meaning a leman russ that rolls a total of 7 on scatter dice, only scatters 4" due to (7 - 3)
... only triumph could turn pooing his pants into a good thing..
You can't claim objectives with it, it dies alot quicker in melee, and can't shoot it's Heavy bolter after moving.
So don't move it. You can't claim objectives, so don't try, You die alot quicker in melee, so don't move closer, and you can't shoot the HB and move, so don't move.
Really, IMO the Heavy Bolter's just a extra bonus anyway - Only shoot the inferno cannon if you have to, it's still awsome.
I won't blather on about how good it is at killing things, as we all know already. e.g. It Kills the vast majority of Tau and Eldar by just rolling 2's, no save full stop.

Some changes are going to hurt us, but there are some changes that are really going to benefit guard- principally the fact that only troops can hold objectives and IG armies can have far more troop squads than anyone else!. Being able to get a basic cover save in the open whould be useful on occasion too.
One reason I think we are going to see big changes in the army list when the codex comes out.
I think the rules changes are going to see a lot of people rejigging their lists.
PLAN CLAN MAN!!
He who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man- S. Johnson
Hmmm... I agree on that, better waith to the Codex before complain or compliment. is a pain expend a lot of money and end with not-so useful units. Also, if the rumor about the Valkirie is true, I like to try them. Fragile units like the Sentinels, but beautiful miniature anyway.
They tried to tilt people away from playing tank heavy armies, as an excuse to get away from painting up 150 guardsmen in a 2k list. And needless to say, they succeeded. Now nonpatient people will actualy have to start painting models they have tried to avoid in the past for so long. Muahahaaha!!!!!
Where the heck did all them guardsmen come from?
Great Wolf! Is that the howl of the 13th?
