There are very few people that still use the land raider. I was wondering why do you use them or why do you not use them? At the end of your post please write Hate It if you dislike it or Love It if you like them thanks
Typically, the original Land Raider variant tends to lack in the tactically viable area; while it has a lot of weapons, it can't move and shoot them all, and if you use it for its transport capacity, you sort of need to move it. Of course, the LRC is a much better candidate for transportation in 4th edition, but come 5th edition the new defensive weapon rules will change that up a bit. There's also the whole "all your eggs in one basket" thing that tends to happen when you put a squad into a Land Raider (for the LRC, many people like to take Assault Terminators, and that's a pretty expensive squad).
I think the Land Raider (all variants) will see more use come 5th edition due to the new difficulty in actually killing vehicles.
That is true. But I wonder if we are using them wrong why would they make something so expensive but it does very little to help you win games? I wonder if anyone has found a succesful way to use the massive tanks?
I think the crusader is the better land raider variant. Only because I play a close combat army, and it would help me get to close combat faster. (though, if my opponent has alot of heavy weapons, it basically would turn into a mass grave for the crew.) I've only used a land raider once however, so you probably shouldn't take my word for it. (I borrowed a friends. They are really expensive.)
All in all, I probably wouldn't use land raiders because they cost so much (pts wise).

Hey! Look at the little.... Oh ****!
This is always an interesting arguement. I personally have found that Land Raiders to be quite valuable in battle both the LRC and the standard pattern. In the past I have used them to "cover" rhinos" to help them get across the table.
Further to this with the Land Riader having such a armour value I have found that they are great as a distraction to the enemy, they focus on this and forget about the rest of the things that I have on the table. Smarter players tend to ignore them as especially the normal variant at most can take down up to 5 models a turn, which is not much.
That being said in 4th ed they were a scoring unit so they were great at causing problems for the enemy as they could hold or contest objectives.
It also must be said that I am a space wolf player and have found that land raiders give me some anti tank weapons from range something that they can lack. And the crusader is one of the best transports for blood claw packs...
So I guess in the end I love them... unless I am fighting eldar or necrons then things generally don't seem to go as I would like. lol
There is nothing more annoying when your Wyches with Plasma Grenades get "Always strikes First" for their combat drugs!
Chaos player: For me it depends on the point value of the battle. Anything less than 2000 pts and it'd be hard to take one and put anything substantial in it with out risking the entire game that you enemy doesn't get a lucky shot.
That being said, I'm gonna try and work them in at lower point values in 5th ed. Nothing says AWESOME quite like ramming and then blasting whatever I hit away with 12 melta bombs just in case it didn't work. :p
Another thing to consider with 5th edition is that the old "Entanglement" rules are gone.
-Transported units don't disembark because of a penetrating hit.
-If the vehicle is wrecked, they only take a pinning("go to ground") test.
-Only if the vehicle explodes do they also take wounds (S4 hit each).
This is gonna make all transports way more attractive. No more rolling coffins!

I only use them in big games. I have 4 (Promethious, 2x standard and a Terminus) If we are looking at 5000 pints or more! This is due to the fact most of my army deepstrikes. In bigger games I put assualt squads in them and assulat termies and get the LR's to move up one flank, the one I'm gonna land an army into. Other than that I have found them of limited value as they are indeed 'rolling coffins' to quote another.
Love em but they will be as they should in the 5th ed rules I think.
I used the LRC with my Ultramarines and loved it, mainly playing against lots of infantry.
So I like the LRC.
I converted it to a standard Black Legion Land Raider where its gathering dust on my painting table mainly because I think its too expensive for anything less than 2000 pts. Thats for CSM buts same applies to normal SMs. I see the main use of the Land Raider is to transport Terminators in to cc as quick as possible but I prefer being able to deep strike more than 5 in the unit so didnt need it to transport Terminators and you can put normal marines (command squad etc) in a rhino and it draws a lot less attention from oppenents. (this is just my opinion though)
Its a pretty expensive screen imo and most armys have more than one way of taking one out.
Its pretty expensive and while it can soak up a lot of fire and draw attention the flipside is the standard version can only kill about 4/5 models a turn.
Not a big fan of the standard layout.
