Well, we've been discussing this is in chat a bit lately, and now that the Falcon has been nerfed in a sense by the new rules, the Land Raider rises up to the strongest vehicle after the Monolith.
Now Lascannons need a 5 plus to even Glance us which won't even destroy it. Might immoblise it but we would still have all the firepower to use. a 6 would penetrate but then of course they still have to roll high enough. The Land Raider is nearly indestructible now, which is great for Deathwing
Ramming in Land Raiders is looing great as we get at least a S5 attack on the enemy plus how far we moved. This will likely destroy or immoblise most vehicles. This is looking like fun and a good way to use them if you can't shoot.
Anyway handing it over to you guys, what do you think of them in %th Edition
Land Raiders will certainly be harder to deal with and closer to their fluff as indestructible beasts of destruction.
I haven't used mine in a long time due to the relative ease of its destruction and the amount of points it takes up.
Arch Overfiend & Grand Despot
I currently play:
Doom Eagle Space Marines
Hive Fleet Omega Tyranids
Goff Ork Boyz(dead)
Tau of O'me
Inquisitorial Xeno Hunters
and my attempted foray into fantasy
'Dark Angel Green' Dark Elves in need of fluff
I can see Land Raiders zooming as fast as possible on turn one, unloading their troops, then staying still the rest of the game shooting stuff. Their tactical flexibility has deteriorated whilst their survivability has increased - S4 defensive weapons suck. My Prometheus in 4th is a beast, always able to fire 4 twin linked heavy bolters regardless of how fast it moved.
I can't say I've seen it all but I live for the things that keep me hollow.
Some of the rumours about the new CM say that power of the machine spirit will allow LRs to move 6" and still fire all weapons... this is just more fuel to the awesome fire really :-)
ABOUT FREAKING TIME!!!
If that's true, the Redeemer will be an absolute monster!
All I can say is...
it's about damn time.
LRs have been worthless since 3rd due to their exorbitant cost and multiple exclusive roles, the LRC was a step in the right direction but it was still too pricy. Maybe in 5th I can actually field one and get some use out of it (other than cover of course).
Check out ==My== blog: www.bnhblog.blogspot.com
Hmm... my LRC always performed well for me in 4th... except for that stray combi-melta carried by an inquisitor that was out of armor melting range and still killed it.... he just kept rolling 6's.... even by 5th edition rules it would have died....

With the way it's sounding though, will most still take on LR's for transport or for the new firepower configurations for support roles?
Land Raiders will never be anything like Falcons.
Firstly - they are fairly priced.
Secondly - they don't cheat when they move.
Thirdly - they're quite destroyable..
They're getting a much needed buff sure, but, in terms of being broken, the only thing that can compare with Falcons is the rest of the Eldar codex OR the units you find in the Rules development section.
