So i have owned a tyranid army for some time and on a whim and because i like the fluff and the look of the models so i got a completely grey knight army. I have heard that they are a challenging play and they are certainly a very drastic change from my tyranid army. I have roughly a 1500 point army consisting grand master and terminator retinue. Squad of terminators, 2 squads of grey knights and a dreadnought. I was wondering if anyone here has any tips, all advice would be greatly appreciated.
GM - Not realy effective in games of 1500pts. A BC and 2 extra GKT do a better job.
Retinue - Should be fine 4-5 is perfect.
GKT - in 4th ed you wouldnt be advised to have 2 squads of GKT but in 5th its simply not viable as what you need is troops troops troops! As your playing pure GK that means GK and more GK, not the cheapest of troops.
GK - were always (imo) one of the best troops in the game, if a little over priced (make em 21pts with frag grenades, Heavy weapon options and combat squads and were getting somwhere!). Nothings changed in that regard but at 1500pts u need a MINIMUM of three x 8 - 10 man squads otherwise you simply wont have the man power.
GKDread - They are fine but ive always found it un fluffy to have 3 as GKD are suposidly even more uncommon that SM Dreads *shrugs*. Still, they provide excelent anti tank (ML/TLLC) so 2 is a good bet. Personaly i love using em as CCW and TLLC as a WS of 5 makes em kick ass, have em suppoet a squad of GK and giggle.
Hope it helps.
Yeah thanks, ill keep all that in mind. This army isnt really meant to win me battles alot but when i do play with them i wanted an idea about what to do. And the games me and my friends play are pretty much annihilation but you only have 6 turns and you calculate victory points at the end so i dont worry about troops that much for capturing objectives.
You can't use the rules of the game and not play the missions/deployments, too! Seriously, give those games a try. I think you'll find that, for the most part, they're much more interesting than simple VP killy games. 1/3 of your games will actually be Annihilation anyway, but using Kill Points instead of VPs actually is an advantage for the DH.
As far as advice: everything that Phoenix Lord said.
ninjabackhand: point and click, again, really? even after i give you an military term "shock tactic" you still call it point and click.

Hey i dont make the rules of the game, i just go along for the ride and make the best of it. But i will certainly look into the different game variations.
If you want your terminators as a single option I would have 7GKT and 1 GM inside a LRC this way they are highly protected, gain fire power extra movement to get to those lines of guardsmen safely.
I would then use the LRC as a LOS block from your GK's and flank.
I would use the GKD to either flank or go anti tank.
Looking at your gk list it does lack variation as such, but when you learn how to use them to full effect you wont have to worry about to many units and be able to concentrate on maximizing survivability and damage.
I might write like a ork but i fight like a poet.
Some one tell me they have ever seen a nightbringer die from a Nemesis Force Weapon.
Im not expecting to win game after game with these guys, i love to models and there unique type of gameplay, so very different from my usual throwing units at a line and not caring. Thanks for the advice everyone.
