Correct me if i'm wrong, but IC's can fire special and heavy weapons and still assault right? and In the dark angels codex the combi weapons don't even replace anything - they're additional weapons. so as per the DA FAQ you can even have twin lightning claws and a storm bolter without penalty (Beleive me, go read it again. i thought i was daydreaming)
Anyone else see alot more use for combi weapons?
why pay 15 points for a plasma pistol, when you can have 2x plasma gun shots before charging for less cost? it's one shot, but you get a boltgun for the other turns.
assault chaplain with combi flamer on jetpack?
I was thinking of converting like magnus calgar, with pistol bits conversions on the back of each hands (for the combi weapons (bolt pistol and plasma pistol/1/2 multimelta nozzle conversion) or storm boltering - (2x bolt pistols) with lightning claws)
Not really, it depends on the weapon type.
No IC can fire heavy weapons and assault, unless they have Terminator Armour, are monstrous or have the relentless special rule.
with combi weapons, if they rapid fire them (in either mode) then they cannot assault (unless subject to the special rules above).
Of course, Flamers are assault weapons, and thus you can charge after firing it.
Same with melta weapons.
But NOT plasma guns.
As for the weapon combinations (l'claws and pistol etc), that's just because they have the sense to go to battle fully armed.
I was originally expecting flamers and meltas to be the order of the day, but twigged before writing that that they still can (my original daydream was how to give a IC a heavy weapon, then i thought about plasmas

I dont know what all the fuss is about. Its a combi-weapon. The only combi-wep i field is a melta, and my captain has thus far managed to write his name in the side of a rhino with it at 4" range. Every other shot has missed and been a waste of shooting. If i had have realised this before i had painted it, i would have converted it. Instead, i just end up with an expensive bolter and a wasted shooting round... Yes, i know its my poor rolling, but it seems to be the only weapon thats done nothing in the dozen games i've played him!
i keep on saying this buut:
They're called 'one shot' weapons for a reason.
At some point in the equation, you will roll a 1.
