Since the new space marine codex is coming out soon i looked back at the reference page for space marines and it looks like space marines get the leman russ exterminator. I was wondering weather any1 knows what it does (Not that i would use it since anything to do with imperial guard is bad lol)
Nothing more funny than 3 inquisitors with sanctify when facing deamons. They cant do anything while you stand in front of them having a tee break.
its a leman russ with a twin linked autocannon turret. its like 130 points or something like that. used to be an anti-infantry powerhouse with move and shoot. now its sorta lame i think.
What? Why? It is an exclusive tank for the IGs and Space Wolves. They already have their predators for that role. Why do they need the exterminator? Geez, what would be left for the Space Wolves that would let them be unique?
Where the heck did all them guardsmen come from?
Great Wolf! Is that the howl of the 13th?
I totally agree, Mack.
I've not seen the new Rulebook, but are the Wolves included in the Space Marine section? and even if they have their seperate sub-section, it's their only unique tank, so it could've been included with the main SM tanks for convenience's sake. And it may have been put there by accident..
And of course, for a third option, Space Marines could be getting it. If they are, I reeeeally hope the SWs get even more new stuff when they're (finally) updated. They used to be really individual, now they're turning into Ultramarines in a different shade of blue.
Sorry, that was slightly melodramatic, but you get my point.
FABRICATI DIEM, PVNC
actually herby dont fear, Space wolves are getting a whole new codex a couple of months after the new marine codex comes out! the Codex release dates for 2008 is on the rumours and preview section.
The exterminator was powerful in 4th edition because it could move 6 inches fire it's turret autocannon and also fire its 3 heavy bolters, compared to the Leman Russ battle tank which could only ever shoot either it's cannon or its heavy bolter.
The exterminator is used as a lead assault tank because of the mobility the guns provide, in 5th edition you cannot fire an autocannon and heavy bolter in the same turn while moving; negating any benefit (except maybe cost) the exterminator has over the battle tank.
5th edition LRBTs may be allowed to have heavy stubber sponsons instead of heavy bolter sponsons (alowing Exterminators to move and fire all guns) but that so far is just wishful thinking. how the exterminator can be equiped in the 5th edition SM codex may give us Guardsmen the answer before our codex is out!
"Thank him who puts me loath to this revenge on you who wrong me not for him who wrongd"
However, my guess is that that the Predator may fit some different role with the new Codex. I don't think they'd just stick a new tank in and completely invalidate the old one.
As far as the ranting and raving about SW, chill out. This codex is a decade old and is going to be totally redesigned. Anything you assume is intrinsic to SW will likely change. I remember in the 2nd Ed dex the SWs didn't have LRs. Look at Orks, they lost their beloved choppa rules, and what did they get in return, a 2 pt decrease and furious charge. I'm sure SW will get plenty of love and attention.
I bloody hope so I've been waiting long enough for a new SW codex. If the SM shouldn't be getting the exterminator (I hope) Leman russ's are supposed to be for Imperial gaurd And SW only one because It's the work wolf of the imperium and the other because It's named after there Primarch. I also hope SW stay unique to other SM in that they don't get combat squads and rigid squad formations (either 5 or 10 man squads only). They need to stay close combat orientated and wolfy.
Dudes, chill, chill!
Its all ok - normal space marines won't be getting access to the leman russ exterminator - the reference page in question contains stuff from ALL the space marine codexes, including black templars, dark angels AND space wolves. The vehicles sections includes stuff from accross the board, including space wolves venerable dreadnoughts.
So yeah - the leman russ reference here is merely there because they are including all the space wolves vehicles as well as everyone elses.
Granted, it would've been a worry if true, however!

Also, you should google "garfield minus garfield". Awesome.
thew I haven't gotten the new rule book yet, I'm gettin it next week so I wasn't sure.
