With all the new rumors and stuff, im not sure if starting the hobby with dark angelsis a good idea. Will they be overshadowed when it comes out?
Yes and no.
Pros) You can plan your army safe in the knowledge its not going to change for a while
You are the only chapter once the dex's are brought into line to have accurate first turn deep strike
You have access to both terminators and bikes as troop choices
Cons) The new SM dex is starting to sound pretty damn good, and it is possible that after spending time and money painting your DA you find you can make a better army for yourself from the new dex.
I presume, though not 100% that DA's will not have access to all the new SM goodness, unless that is faq'd in at somepoint.
Having read rumour on here for the past 3 years about various things, I can honestly say that most of what you read is true - do a search for chaos or daemon codex rumours and you'll see they are pretty close.
That being said, I'd wait for the new dex. The corridor of uncertainty is too big at the moment to start another chapter safely, IMO.
Unless, of course, you are starting a chapter based entirely on fluff rather than rules and you dig the Dark Angels a lot. That would be a good reason to begin DA.
I can't say I've seen it all but I live for the things that keep me hollow.
If your looking for playability with your army, then I would at least wait until the new SM dex is out, so that you can compare and then have a better idea of what you want.
But like DD says, if your basing your army more on fluff, and like the DA, then crack on with them.

The latest version of the DA Codex is reasonably good, and as a Chapter, they're as good as any other.
If you can wait, then as Toastee said, chill until the new Codex comes out. Then make your choice.
Well, I'm mostly repeating what has already been said, but I'd like to add that I am saying this as I am in the middle of building up my Blood Angels. As the Blood Angels are in the same boat with the Dark Angels, it seems unlikely that we'll profit from the new Space Marine Codex while some of the Blood Angels stuff got quite a bit downgraded with 5th Edition (e.g. Feel No Pain).
As most of my Blood Angels army is still unpainted, I could put my project on hold. However, the Blood Angels are still a solid Chapter that is very competitive against any enemy, so I see no reason to change. Plus I like the fluff behind the Blood Angels so I'd never fall from Sanguinius.

I've always liked my DA's and had mixed results probably due more to my poor rolling ability than a lack of ability in the chapter.
about 7500 pts of Dark Angels, probably a sub chapter with the way I have them painted up with copper edging and all.
Well if you love fluff and want to play a chapter that has existed since before the imperium itself then I would defintely give Dark Angels the double thumbs up. The only chapter I am interested in playing. How ever tastes do very, SO I would suggest you research and try the various chapters to see which one you like
Go dark. the mini's are far nicer too.
Oh, and pro - Plasma cannons are obscene now. DA get them cheaper (Or it's been hinted to me from a reliable source, while I was whinging about DA's that "You're forgetting their advantages with plasma weaponry" - and then he promptly shut up when I asked how. now, i don't see a plasma gun being 20 in a marine squad, but i do see plasma cannons being 20 in the marine dex. (blast weapons like a ML went up 5 points in DA dex, add 5 to the marine dex and ... hey, there's something missing!)
You also get to be cool.
and don't have to wait months before starting (It was my patience that did it for me in the end)

DA's is never bad. I've played them for some 12 years or so, still love them...
