Who here field a loyalist army with as many Drop Pods as permitted in the rules? My brother tells me if you play marines, you place the minimum amount of troops on the table and the rest come from the sky. Anyone else do this?
Actually i believe you can play a completely Legal drop podding army, this means that you start with nothing on the table, so it makes the game kinda lame for you opponent unless your get alot of 5+ rolls on turn 2.
Im yet to face a list like this, but I have seen a Drop Pod BT army in action.
I will give it a try when they make the plastic drop pod kits, and hopefully if the marine codex rumors are true about the drop pod assault being like Deathwing Assault.
I love drop podding lists.... since they're immune to the Deep Strike Mishap table when hitting cover or a unit, they're a very reliable.
Plus bolters are pretty powerful as are the ubiquitous two meltaguns/ plasma gun+ melta combo in your face. Even better is when you drop in on a flank and use tons of firepower to shred that entire side. Hell, dropping into a building makes your marines that much more survivable. With a Scout flanking (with Infiltrate) its possible to really drive the shock assault tactic home.
Not to mention Drop Pods make great cover/ line of sight breakers.
I agree with all of the above, Drop Pods are awesome, I normally hate proxying with a passion but until the plastics Pods come out I am using the tops of 2L soft drink bottles... works for now lol. I will be buying several once they are released.
Drop pod rapid firing bolters and drop pod dreadnoughts with heavy flamers are quite simply brilliant. Especially if someone has been bragging about how great their Veil of Tears is for their Harlequins... not if you dismebark 1" away from them it's not!
