Welcome to Librarium Online!
hi im planning to buy a dreadnought (perhaps one of forgeworld since thet are very cool )
I try to play Pure GK only so that means Im short on antitank weapons..
what are in this case good weapons for my dread.?
and what does a dread have in common for a DH-army??
Well, the two most commonly seen load-outs were the Twin-Linked Lascannon and Missile Launcher combo (TLLC/ML), and the Assault Cannon and Dreadnought Close Combat Weapon (AC/DCCW) varieties. The former being the premier tank-hunting unit in our codex, and the latter being a close-support unit that used to be able to pop armor in a pinch. With the nerfed rending rules, and the survivability boost that vehicles have apparently seen in 5th though, the TLLC/ML is probably the best way to go. Hope it helps!

If you're intruiged by doctors who are also ninjas, then this is the webcomic for you!
I usually field mine with the TL Lascannon, for anti-tank, and the Dreadnought Close combat Weapon, for dealing with tanks up close and personal. I keep the DCCW for three reasons; because that's where my Dreadnoughts like to be - in the thick of it; because I hate seeing my Dreadnoughts locked in combat with large mobs for entire games; and because tanks are like paper in combat now (or at least a lot easier than shooting...), especially with multiple hits and two AP dice.
If I need to (and I sometimes do) I add on a Hunter-Killer Missile for good measure and balance.

"Grey Knight terminators aren't 'good.' THEY'RE F****N AWESOME!!"
I have 2 dreads, one of which is a FW GK dread, I run one with TLLC/ML and the Other with TLLC/CCW.
I think I am going to run one TLLC/ML dread because I have a pretty sick conversion with shoulder mounted missle launchers and a single lascannon on each arm. Though I think if I didn't have the conversion I would run TLLC/DCCW/incinerator dreads. The TLLC will shoot tanks, the incinerator will keep him useful once all of the tanks are gone and I really think the ML will not be effecitve in 5th edition; my main tank opponents are Monoliths, Land raider crusaders, and battlewagons...strength 8 just isn't going to do it for me. I think in high points games I will play a LR, and then one of each dread type, dropping the helfire dread if need to get more troops.
Dunno. I think i find the Hellfire Dread to be a waste of points. When I tried it, it did very poorly ( OFC i had to invest points to other things, so no ML). To use a Dread as a TLLC platform... I rather use 2x5 man IST squads with meltas or plasmas. I find them more versatile and they even do much better!
TLLC/ML dreads are plenty effective and survivable! You just can't keep them "in the thick of it", as one poster said he likes to do. Keep them at distance, and near terrain. Sight-blocking terrain is best, so you can minimize the ability of the enemy to snipe at your dread, but keeping the machine hull down for 4+ cover saves has proven to be just about as good in 5th edition games for me so far. I still haven't lost more than a single dread in any game I've yet played under the new rules, but am making good use of their heavy weaponry. Still, IMHO, the best dreadnought loadout for a GK-centric army.
ISTs work just fine, too, of course. I figure in 1500+ pt games, every army needs at least 3 solid anti-armour solutions. If you can get there without resorting to dreadnoughts, than alternative loadouts for them (like TLLC/DCCW or AC/DCCW or even TLAC/DCCW or PC/DCCW or PC/ML) become feasible. A TLLC/DCCW dread is only a wishy-washy solution and doesn't really count in my book. It's a single shot attempt, and most players run these machines as assault support, using the TLLC to snipe armour on the way. That puts the dread at significantly more risk than you want for an anti-armour unit. Such a dread should take the AC instead. Using a dread properly to snipe at armour means it should keep away from melee scraps and take the ML.
Another thing worth noting is that while DCCW dreads can be nice, they don't really provide any utility that GKs themselves don't already. GKs are already the game's premier anti-infantry units, both at range an in melee. What they suck at is heavy weaponry, so 99% of the time, that should be the role for which you slot your dreadnoughts.
ninjabackhand: point and click, again, really? even after i give you an military term "shock tactic" you still call it point and click.

I second the ranged AT Dreadnought with Twin Linked Lascannon + Missile Launcher with the Venerable Dreadnought upgrade and Tank Hunters skill. For Codex Marines I sometimes switch the Lascannon for a Multi-melta.
I run a TLLC/ML and PC/DCCW combo. I think the DCCW with flamer/incinerator makes a dread a little more intimidating than the TLLC/ML dread that hangs back. I like the idea of plasma guns so there is a bit preference there.
