Hello fellow witch hunters, I am going up against a nid player that I have never played against. But I've been told his lists are stacking up alot of warriors with death spitters, 4 squads of gaunts, and 4 carnifexs. Not to sure on the HQ.
Well this list seems fairly easy to knock out synapse, so I am wondering: Dominion with 4 flamer sisters or Rertributors with 4 heavy bolters?
The dominion will help me handle gaunts but the retributors and 2 exorcists could make pretty short work of the synapse.
What do you guys think?
I reckon you can't ever go wrong with Retributors with those Heavy Bolters. 12 shots per turn is just nasty, whether you're taking out Warriors or Gaunts. I say go for the Retributors; the downfall of Flamers is getting so close to the enemy that you're likely going to hit combat.
I'd go with retributors to. I am presuming your other squads already flamers as the special weapons. No reason to overload on a weapon that can briung you into combat due to lucky fleet rolls.
I would also give some attention to a Dominion Storm Bolter squad (4 special weapons + VSS storm bolter) inside a Immolator You can dismount the squad and use them to attack a Gaunt brood, backing them up so that even with fleet they will be hard to reach. Meanwhile the Immolator can go with Heavy Flamers to get rid of a Gaunt Brood, or Heavy Bolters/Multi-Melta to deal with MC's. You might want to take this with a grain of salt as I am a Ork player, but it seems good in the realm of theoryhammer.
The thing is the dominion puts more tanks on the board and supports my sisters.
And once you do the math 4 heavy bolters will only kill about 1.5 warriors a turn when you factor in they will probably always get a cover save with 60+ gaunts infront of them.
You can't? I was under the impression that it affected any SOB weaponry as long as the squad passes the faith test. The reason why storm bolters arent too great is you cant use divine guidance on them which makes the squads extremely inflexible. .
Even then, I wouldn't worry about Divine Guidance against anything but his Carnifexes and Tyrant, your Bolters/Storm Bolters/Bolt Pistols will penetrate his gaunts no matter what the upgrade, and HB's will penetrate upgraded Warriors. Cover saves do present a problem, but with a heavy flamer in your battle sister squads that will be somewhat negated, although you'll have to get close. If thats your main motivation for Dominions is a tank, then I would still argue for SB's. Fleet makes using flamers risky, and a SB squad is cheaper as well. The thing is the dominion puts more tanks on the board and supports my sisters.Very understandable and honourable. Although do remember: basic SOB playstyle makes them appear tailored versus Nids.I dont really want to take a tailored list with me
Sorry I meant that a standard flamer is much better for divine guidence. : / and dominion cost the same as normal battle sisters.
Becuase I'm a bit uneasy about all the cover saves making the HB a bit redundant I think I will take the dominion squad.
I would use a small squad of Retributors.
Static Weapons will be avoided and/or minimized by any player with a brain.
And that tells you where his most important gamepieces will not be.
That little bit of control is useful, but not worth the max cost of a full Retrib squad,
but it should be worth the cost of a small Retrib squad.
Sisters Repentia: Wow what beautiful models! Wow what terrible rules! -stjohn70
My last games include 2 Exos and 8-strong, 4HB Rets almost every time., even in 1K games. I have to say that this setup gives me a lot of long range fire support, and keeps my two troop choices alive longer. Against Nids, I'd go with HBolters. Most of your flamers will be a one-shot deal, so no need to overdo those, if you have them in your regular squads perhaps... What is the rest of your army like?
...And as far as DG - small Nids have poor save so DG is a waste of Faith for those squads, and you cannot break cover save with AP1 weapons. Against large creatures - they will have a harder time getting 50% of their body in "cover" for the save, so DG from HBolters with work just fine against their higher save. And I would rather HBolter a Tyrant to death than try to fry him with flamers due to their lower S value... Sure you could use HFlamer but you can only take one of those per squad. And still, you would be scoring a single hit on him anyway, versus several from the Retributor squad.
