So, as the title suggests, I'm preparing my army for the inevitable loss of the traits system, and moving towards a 5th ed/ new 'dex force.
I'm using a Raven Guard successor chapter (DIY) but will be geared like RG for tournaments/serious matches. I have a few custom units that i field when playing friendly matches (with opponents consent - DIY rules )
With traits being removed, I'm going to have to change my army list and probably convert a few models that are already made up and painted. The traits I took were 'Take the fight to them' and 'cleanse and purify' which i took to make 2x10man squads with BP/CCW and 2x10man squads with 2flamers in one, and 2 melta-guns in the other.
I have a total of 5 devvie squads (4xML, 4xPC, 4xMM, 4xHB, 4xLas) which i swap and change around according to my opponents force (usually i only field 2 squads though), so i have enough anti-troop and anti-armor power should i wish to field it. What i want to do though, is make the best out of those tactical marines!
A total of 60 tactical models are battle-ready, but they all carry either a bolter, BP/CCW, flamer or melta-gun (ignoring sergeants btw!). How would you work with these units to make up viable 5th edition tactical squads without leaving me with too many conversions?
Cheers for the help in advance
Personally, I'd wait for the Codex to come out before making any irrevocable changes to your army list. You never know, you may not have to change too much.. but apart from that, I know sod all about normal Space Marines, and what works and what doesn't, so I can't help much. Sorry

Yes I am taking the "Wait and see" approach with my Red Templars.
"The sword that takes life gives life."
Just play blood angels now. You will have a blast.
Isn't That Just Peachey
I'm also considering putting my asault marines in a rhino without jetpack (5x man squads) - the rhino's free. Mind you, If i had a drop pod they'd probably be ten man squads, but for the time being the spare spaces in the rhino fit my commander nicely - If you play annhialation (as per attached thread) you will have to stick your commander in the open without the spaces, and sometimes it's very adventageous to have everyone in a vehicle:
If your opponent is doing something disgusting with 2x plague marine squads, 2x lash of submissions and 7x obliterators, don't let him move your men by putting them in a vehicle.
Then either: Stand back staying stationary and shoot everything you have at the appropriate target, or, Absolutely everyone charges forwards on one plage marine squad. The entire army, to the last man.
