Hey. everyone. I don't know a whole lot about space marines, but I'm looking to start an army up soon and thought that Space Wolves looked pretty awesome. I know that the Space Marine Codex is soon to be released, but what I don't know is how the other Marine codices, such as the space wolves, will be effected. Will they be redone too, or will there rules still apply?
Firstly, welcome to the fold, Wolfbrother! *shares his Wulfsmeade*
In reference to your questions, the only things the Space Wolves rely on the Space Marine Codex for are a few Vehicle choices, but that should change when the new Codex comes out, apparently in Dec/Jan, but rumours have put it as far back as this time next year, depending who you listen to. Anyway. The new SW Codex should be completely stand-alone, so once that comes out the SM Codex doesn't matter at all, and for the time being, I can't see them making massive, irrevocable changes to Space Wolves, so I doubt if you buy something based on the current Codex you'll be totally dissapointed by their incarnation when the next one comes back.
Oh, and final point:

As many have already stated we will be getting a new dex soon; however, during the period between the release of the SM dex and our new SW dex the following units will change:
-Dreadnought (Non Space Wolf Venerable version) – Stats, options, & cost
-The weapon options for the 0-1 scouts that can take weapons from the SM codex scout entry. – options & option costs only
-Rhino - Stats, options, & option costs (the base cost will not be affected)
-Drop Pods - Everything
-Land Speeders – Stats, options, & cost
-Attack Bike – Stats, options, & option costs (the base cost will not be affected)
-Whirlwind – Stats, options, & option costs (the base cost will not be affected)
-Predator – Stats, options, & option costs (the base cost will not be affected)
-Land Raider – Stats, options, & option costs (the base cost will not be affected) (the new land raider will not be an option unless it is stated in an errata)
-Vindicator – Stats, options, & option costs (the base cost will not be affected)
-Storm Shields – Effect only (cost will remain the same)
-Thunder Hammer – Effect only (cost will remain the same)
Also a lot of their other wargear would change too if the entries for them change in Coex space marine but they are not likely to change, such as: Bolter, Bolt Pistol, Bikes, Jump Packs, etc.

Actually, according to the Space Wolves FAQ, you use the entries from Codex: Space Marines, including base cost for:
Basic Dreadnoughts, Land Speeders, Attack Bikes, Whirlwinds, Predators, Land Raiders and Vindicators.
