Hey. I just wanted to ask which IG regiment is most prone to using a lot of mortars, fluff-wise.
Thanks for your help.
Victory is achieved through mettle.
Glory is acheived through metal.
Starting on page 58 of the IG codex, it gives a description of various regiments along with their preferred heavy and special weaponry.
According to the afore mentioned page 58, the Valhallans favor mortars.
The Death Korps make extensive use of a variety of heavy mortars along with other artillery.
And if you want to devise your own regiment, then mortars would be particularly well suited to a siege regiment, or to a fairly low-tech regiment (a mortar is just a braced tube and a small rocket with explosives attached).
Cry woe, destruction, ruin and decay;
The worst is death, and death will have his day.
-Shakespeare; King Richard II
Any Guard legion that does urban combat or trench war really. Vostroyan and Death Korp are the obvious ones.
However Valhallans have mortars as their preferred weapon as well, as they often use indirect bombardment prior to assualts.
And Elysians - being drop troops (In my view paratroopers) mortars would be fairly popular.

Any regiment that can expect to be fighting against lots of enemy infantry would appreciate Mortars, and by infantry i mean regular troops or sentient beings, ones that think. Not so practical in built up areas though.
