I know it is blasphemous, I was just wondering if people have tried it, and where they got their storm bolters from if they did. I am tired of playing for metal models and I have the marines from the Black reach coming that I don't really need, but more GKs is always nice.
And are there any sweet models that you guys use as justicars? I just picked up the DA chaptermaster to use, but was wondering if there were any others (other than the emporers champion).
Doing some searching over at bolter and chainsword will reveal some helpful tips.
Doing some searching in LO will reveal lots of these questions.
But to answer your question. I am currently working on (to a large degree success) some SM converted to GK. It is a LOT of work to do it properly with lots of detail, and I generally don't recommend you do it unless you have an extreme amount of patients.
But the results can be stunning. And it is not at all blasphemous.
Two bolters mounted side by side with a little greenstuff makes a bigger, but cool storm bolter.
Hope this helps!
...or glue two bolt pistols together. the wrist-mounted storm bolters on the metal minis are quite small.
The Emperor's Champion makes a great Justicar, but he's metal.
one of the best things about converting plastic SM into GK is being able to correct the size issue
(Marines should tower over mere mortals/eldar etc -see dawn of war 2 video/ 40k artwork)
of course with the new LOS rules bigger models may not be the best option...but still.
a little green stuff at the waist and am joints gives a better scale.
also it allows for creating your own Psycannon poses (which the average SM model lends it's self to)
It's funny, but the only reason why I wanted to play Grey Knights in the first place was because I loved the look of the models so much! It's the only army I have that's mostly metals.
Having said that, I did use 2 plastic Terminators for my TH/SS termies. I just did some snipping on their face mask and gave them the Knight Helm. I also avoided more of the SM looking emblems and tried to use the more Inquisition looking emblems on them. They ended up decent I thought.
Fantasy: Daemons (Angels), 40k: Black Templars
Again, there are tons of guides online for converting SM plastics to Grey Knights.
One of which actually shows you how to convert the masks of SM Terminators into GKTs without the use of GS. It looks amazing in the end!
Hmm... did a fast search on two great websites other then LO (on of which was google, which in turn also had the link to the other site on it)
For Terminator Grey Knights
Ok, the above link is the one I was talking about.
The below link is some guy that very skillfully turned Plastic SM into generic looking Grey Knights.
Only problem.... The doody head didn't keep the image links on his photobucket account. Lol. But reading the text will give a bit of insight anyways as to how he did some of the sculpting.
Custom Plastic GK *No pics anymore *
Hope this helps.
