Now I'm not super sure whether I should post this here or in Rules development, but I'm sure a mod can always move the thread and frown at me.
These are some stats I've been cooking up for the Master of the 8th company of the Dark Angels. I figure since it's a company entirely composed of assault squads, he'd be pretty good at managing them, like belial and terminators, or sammael and bikes.
The statline is pretty much the standard of company masters in the new space marine codex and Dark Angels. If pressed about it I wouldn't be too broken up about changing his stats to WS5 BS5 and a master crafted power sword as per other Dark Angels characters, but I figure he's a more assault orientated than the other masters of the companies.
So let me know what you think, feedback is welcome.
Master of the 8th Company
WS6 BS4 S4(6) T4 W3 I5 A4 Ld10 Sv3+/4+
*An army can only
include one Master
of the 8th Company
*Rites of battle
*Death from above
*If the Master of the 8th Company is in the
army, one Assault squad may be upgraded
-One Assault marine may be upgraded
to a Standard Bearer carrying the 8th
Company Banner for +25 points.
-One Assault Marine may be upgraded
to an Apothecary equipped with a
narthecium/reductor for +30pt
*If the Master of the 8th company is in the army,
Assault Squads may be treated as troops as well as
Fast Attack choices.
Death from above:
When you deploy an Assault Squad when the Master of the 8th Company is included in the army, you may choose to put it on the table or in reserve, as described in the Deep Strike Scenario Special Rule (except in missions that do not use the Deep Strike rule).
At the beginning of your first turn, you may choose up to half (rounding up) of the Assault Squads kept in reserve to make a 'Death from above' attack. Units making a Death from above attack arrive on the player's first turn using the Deep Strike rules. The arrival of the remaining units held in reserve is rolled for as normal.
Independent characters equipped with a jump pack may also be deployed via Death from above. They must join and enter play with Assault Squads to do so.
Just wondering why you gave him S6. Only Azrael's Sword of Secrets does that, i.e. not Belial's Sword of Silence nor Sammael's Raven Sword - they are just master-crafted power weapons. Other than that, I like the concept. I have often toyed with the idea of an 8th company, but always discarded it because it is currently hardly practical to build.
Sadly, the relic blades wont be availible for DA and BA codex, only in the new Space Marine codex. I know, its kinda sad, but thats what GW determined.
Sorry, but I do not like him, in my opinion he should not have better stats then Belial - company master of the first and the best company.

I was talking about this idea with some other games yesterday. If you really want to make the 8th Co., have you thought of using the BA codex and just calling them the DA 8th Company?
Belial is essentially a 3 wound terminator in my books.
To bring Master of the 8th Company back in line with the other company masters, you could change his statline to:
WS5 BS5 S4 T4 W3 I5 A3 Ld10 Sv3+/4+
*Master crafted power sword
Also, I didn't realize company masters were A3, most likely because that's stupid.
How could you rise to the rank of company master without getting terminator honours?
Terminator Honors is the right to wear the Tactical Dreadnought Armor (Terminator Armor). It is represented by the skull and crossbones represented on the wearers left shoulder. Just because a marines is a company master doesn't necessarily means he has earned the right to wear terminator honors. Usually, this is the case, but terminator honors doesn't exist for the blood angels or dark angels anymore due to the characters having a ridiculous amount of attacks (E.G. i play ultramarines, so my chaplain gets 6 attacks on the charge...). I doubt Terminator Honors wargear will re-surface for a while since now all sergeants are "veteran sergeants". It will be one of those things in fluff...
I like him, captain of the assault company would favour combat over shooting.
Reduce A to 3 to bring him in line with the other captains and give him the relic blade.
So what if he has a weapon no other DA can have? He is meant to be unique. Plus as it is 2 handed he will never get more than 4 attacks.
You have no points cost on him though

I don't think you could justify giving him a better weapon than the 1st and 2nd Company Captains, he Captains a Reserve Company, they're slightly lower in the pecking order than Battle Company Captains, and definatly lower than 1st (and 2nd, in DA) Company Captains.
It could be justified by the fact that it's 2-handed (so does not gain an additional Attack for 2 CCWs), but I'd say give it a slightly more significant drawback.
How about giving him a 2-handed, master-crafted Power Weapon, but give it a special rule (Lance charge, or the like), that gives him +2S on the turn he charges with it?
